trying to finish up my new predator carbon gasser.

i installed the tail pitch plate, however, it appears the part was molded backwards. when the leftward sweep is achieved like shown in the manual, the part actually curves inwards towards the tailboom.

if i installed the plate such that it curves outward, the sweep goes to the right. when attached to the tailblades, this yields trailing edge control instead of leading edge control.

this is my second predator (older one is a nitro bird about 5 years old) and i also have a 50 size raven. both of those have tail pitch plates that match the manual with a leftward sweep and outward curve.

the metal pitch plate upgrade also uses a leftward sweep and outward curve as shown in the manual.

has anyone seen this before??

thanks
tony

Yeah, I asked the same question and got no replys. This plate has definately moved the control to the trailing edge. The pics show leading edge in both the old and new manual. Every other heli I own has leading edge control. Wasnt overly impressed with the hub assb. either. Plan to fly this build soon. If it has tail issues intend to install Trex 600N assb. with a Raptor slider. Have the 600N on most all my helis except my Freya. Works great. Maybe someone will enlighten us as to what is going on with this backwards pitch plate.

The pitch plate is wrong, just send it back, and they will replace it, no problem....

Mine is the same way and arrived assembled with the pitch arm curved away from the boom - requiring trailing edge pitch control.

Question - is trailing edge control an issue? If not, then this is also a non-issue. (My control seems smooth and equal in both directions. There are no obvious disadvantages.)

If the trailing edge control configuration poses flight problems then Century should expeditiously recall/replace the defective part with the least possible inconvenience and no expenses to the kit owners.

I just looked at the aluminum upgrade (http://www.heli-world.com/detail.aspx?ID=9158). It is molded correctly and would provide for leading edge control.

The way they are stating it is if you have issues, they will change it out...
The Predator doesn't have a high speed tail as the
Radikal so you probably want see it...

I'll call them tomorrow about the Predator, but I'm pretty sure they will change it if you don't like it.

I talked with them, and all you have to do is call, and let them know, and they will send you one...All future kits will have the leading edge design..

after three weeks and 5 messages century has finally admitted the problem.

the factory mispackaged radikal tail pitch plates in predator kits.

the predator should have leading edge control, NOT trailing edge.

they are suppose to be sending me out a new pitch plate assembly. i will post here once i receive it, and then i should finally be able to fly this bird.

very unimpressed with their customer service, and i've had 3 other century kits.

For any one interested a Rex 600 tail hub assb. fits easily and is rather cheap. I installed one when it was confirmed the wrong pitch plate was shipped with my Predator. Having Rappy stuff around I also used a Rappy slider and pitch fork, mainly because they are easy to find(already had em). The only major mod is to shorten the Rappy slider to allow full inward travel. Simply remove the inward part of the slider til the flats are gone and remove the non threaded portion on the opposite end. Then assemble into the Century slider( you will have to hold the slider with pliers-gulp hub and bolt on using the Rappy screws and spacers. The Rex tail is more robust than the Century. I was not impressed with the Century tail. When assembled and the hub nuts tightened fully it was bound. The instructions say to use thread loch on the nylocs and set the play. NOT a good idea. The tail should bee free with the nuts full tight. The rex tail is spaced slightly closer allowing bigger blades. Also the Century blade root is wider than the Rex hub, requiring different blades, KBDDs work well. Also you might want to mod the upper frame to allow the servo to be removed if nec. with out splitting the upper frames-see pic.
