People, listen up...

Microsoft is not able to keep up with security based on it's software F ups.

I've been on Firefox for years. I'm not here to promote anything but I can tell you, everytime I have to use IE, I notice how slow and awkward it is to use.

But the real reason to get off is security.

Microsoft says the security hole can be shut by setting the browser's security zone to "high", although this limits functionality and blocks many websites.

I haven't used IE for years. Firefox is so much better and faster. So many are so locked on one browser. People should look around. Firefox rules.

I work at Boeing. They are very secure with software. They offer IE AND Firefox.

I use both Firefox & Exploder here. Both work great. About the same between the 2.

There is and addon for Firefox that allows you to switch to an IE "engine" for those pesky sites that are IE exclusive. I guess that's what I hate the most about IE. They use code that only works on IE. That to me is screwing us by forcing no choice. Too bad. IE is slowly dieing.

I use both as well, never had a problem with either. Not sure about security problems, but never had any of those either. Mac's rule, lol.

Take Care,

My IE was acting up so I switched to FireFox. But it was super slow my PC and the favorites management was atrocious and especially bogged down my PC (2 minute wait to do something in the favorites is ridiculous). I'm not sure why, but I had to switch back to IE. When I switched back I got an update and now its working fine again.

You should figure that out. I use Firefox on many different computers. There is no doubt from my experience that Firefox is the browser for me. Been using Netscape and Firefox at least 10 years. Everytime I get stuck on a computer with IE I hate it.

Turn IPV6 off. This should be a Network setting, less related to the Browser directly, but with it turned on, FireFox might be trying to use 1st before switching to IPV4. Where IE might be handling it different.

I stopped using IE around 5 years ago. Funny enough, work still forces us to use IE. They are fully dedicated to M$.
While at the same time as we deliver essential services, we are suppose to have security as number one! LOL

Firefox Question
I used firefox a few years back and was not to impressed, but people tell me it has grown alot. I just built an i5 with Win7 64. Anyone else running this on 7? I think I will give it a try again, I am not to thrilled with IE8. I pretty much use IE8 with google toolbar so IE is just the engine and google is the UI. Tried Chrome and sorry but not really a fan of that either. I would just install Firefox but I am keeping this system "clean" as long as I can. With XP pro that was about a year or so before the .iso showed it's ugly head...

Firefox on Win7 works great (using it now). Also, don't forget about Opera either. It's just as good as FF IMO and better at some things than FF is.

Don't lock yourself into just one browser either. Since they are all free, try them all. The only knock I have on FF is that it is somewhat of a memory hog compared to the others.

Equating the browsers as SUV/CUVs

IE is like a Chevy Suburban. Everyone has one, they are cheaply built and rattle like crazy.

FF is like a Nissan Armada. Big, strong, fast, great accessories, but the gas mileage is horrible.

Opera is like a Toyota Sequoia. Perhaps a little more refined than the Armada, a tad better mileage and has the small things you appreciate.

Chrome is a Porsche Cayenne. Fast, fast, fast, but nothing else to say.

Safari is a Highlander Hybrid. Pointless, overpriced and really just made so people can overpay for one and feel better about themselves because they are green. A look-at-me type vehicle.

Hope that helps.

Chevy Suburbans are far from cheaply built and they don't rattle like crazy. You should have picked a Yugo for that one.

I just built a new computer this week and installed IE 8 after using Firefox the past year or so. I was trying to get used to and give IE a chance, but this discussion prompted me to download Firefox on this computer. I won't be going back to IE. Thank you for starting this post.

I use both IE and FF, but primarily IE8 just because I'm used to it. The only difference I've seen is that readyheli will load faster on FF when you're viewing 250 items per page.

Sorry hoot, no disrespect meant, but every one I've ridden in has rattled and has plastic trim pieces either broken, or paint flaking off. That to me is cheap.

You may have had better luck with one and if so, great. Just like IE, there are some who swear by it. To each his own I guess.

never really had probs with IE, but switched to FF for the heck of it when I moved and set up a different network at home/office, and I love the Fox. Fast, with no problems whatsoever. I'm staying put.

FYI 99% of the "security holes" you guys are referring to usually at the time had been patched for months. No OS or Browser is going to protect you 100% of the time. Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, etc.. can't monitor your browsing habits. I personally run all three browsers for varying reasons. They each have there place. IE will be compatible with the most sites. Mozilla has the most installable functionality. Chrome will always load the fastest since they don't offer browser plugins at the moment. If you don't like how fast your browser loads, turn some stuff off. It's a compromise. 9 times out of 10 the problem exists between the keyboard and the chair.
