All these new packs that can be charged at high are making quite a damand for high wattage chargers. Figured it be just a matter of time before they start showing up. Glad to see FMA back in the game with some inovatitve stuff (regen discharge) and 32v input capabilities.

But its tad surprising that its an 8s charger when many of the big electrics (at least in helis) are moving 12s.

OK, I know this is going to have something to do with Ohms law or something similar.

I have a bunch of chargers 3 pulling 6A each, 1 pulling 10A and 1 pulling 3A

=31A

The breaker in my house fuse box is 15A so I guess that there is a trade off between the 12Volt Amps and 110V Amps that Mr Ohm could explain very nicely I am sure.

Question is how many 12V amps can I pull from my power supplies before I set fire to the house.

OK that makes no sense at all.

Put it this way. If I have lots of 10A power supplies each powering a charger and all are drawing the full 10A. How many can I plug into the house line before the 15A breaker pops.

How efficient are your supplies? Switching or regulated?

31 Amps x 12VDC = 372W

372W / 120VAC = 3.1Amps AC draw from your home if your supplies were 100% efficient but as you can see even if they were only 50% your a long ways from blowing a breaker.

Not a bad book but if you want a good read try this one.

Then let me know what you think of DSM2 technology over Futaba Fasst.

Lots more info about this charger, including specs, pics and screen shots of the software here

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1176112

I'm still kind of dissapointed about it not being 12s. But it appears FMA is addressing this with a "smart parallel" charge adapter. It will be interesting to see how that is implimented.

I'm not fan of parallel charging as it does not let you (or the charger) see the real voltage state of each cell at the start of a charge. The common implimentation is to connect two or more pack's node adapters in parallel. If one of the cells is failing as is low, it gets charged by the heathly cell in an uncontrolled way. Not good.

Slider, don't be suprised. Debating usually overrides actual flying on forums
