I arrived at Terciera Island (the Azores Portugl) a few weeks ago. This was the first weekend that the wind wasn't blowing over 45 knots. In fact it was an absolutely beautiful day all over the island. The skies and seas were blue as far as the eyes could see. The winds were much clamer this morning, almost no wind at all, but I was out sight seeing with my family, so this afternoon I took the Rex 450 to one of the parks at Lajes Air Field and flew three packs. It was good getting the bird up in the air after setting for almost two months. I have been told the summers here are incredible, with little to no winds. If it's not raining & blowing tomorrow morning, I think I'll go out for three more lipo packs before/after church. I mighteven take the Rex 600E out while I'm at it.
Just thought I'd share with everyone.

I always have fun. Some times are more fun than others.

Lajes is a very beutiful place. I used to go there alot on deployment and always enjoyed it. I never took a plane or helo back then because i couldn't take fuel on the plane. I always wanted to take a sloper but never did. There was always wind there, like on Guam where it was rainy season or not quite so rainy season, the Azores have a windy and a not quite as windy season if you know what I mean.

Flying in the wind will make you a better pilot when you leave there but it's a pain while you're there.

Before being stationed here I had a few lay-overs, but never made it past the terminal. I've got two years to explore.
The last couple of days must have been a fluke, in the mornings there is almost no wind at all. By afternoon the winds have kicked up to anywhere between 4 to 7 mph. I know the 600E can handle this wind, its the 450 thats being tossed around like the SS Minow. Like you said though, with some practice I'll master it.
