Hi Chaps,

Searched for this but suprisingly couldn't find anything, sorry if i'm duplicating.

How tight should we be doing the engine prop nut? I'm guessing if too higher torque is used it will over sideload the bearings? Too slack and there could be movement.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

There's a flange on the crankshaft that seats on the inner race of the front bearing, so over torquing on the bearing is not a problem. I never use a torque wrench when setting the prop nut. I think for a 1/4in. 20, it's 65in. lbs wet and 70in. lbs dry.

Good question Orion. I always tight the nut until it feels "firmly seated". If you are installing a engine fan, also remember to check for the washer that goes between the front bearing and the fan before tight the nut.

Depends on the model. Some use it, some don't.
