I have found a way to loosen the canopy to allow room for the extra electronics. This might be something you can add to your "bag of tricks"

Remove the grommets from the canopy.

Replace the CF canopy post with a 1" straight piece of a small paperclip.

Once it's inserted, bent it using two needle nose pliers.

Configure it like a handle bar mustache to allow for less stress on the canopy, with curls on the ends so the canopy doesn't slide off.
