Hello,

I am converting my raptor 50 Titan to swing 690 blades, does anyone have details on how to perform this task? What parts ect? I would guess I would need different gearing as well? Please let me know.

I plan on using this heli for AP.

I don't think your going to be able to swing 690's on a raptor 50. The Titan boom is as long as your going to find without making a custom boom yourself and then you need to make/find a custom belt to drive the tail. You may need to go to a Raptor 60/90.

I wouldn't trust the 50 spec spindle with 690 blades. I wouldn't trust the grips either.

You could transplant a 60-90 sized head but it will likely turn into a rat's nest with the tail boom length increase, mast alterations etc. The new OS55 or Redline would likely pull the 690 blades easily enough for your docile purpose and modest blade angles. Just remember the thing will be more prone to boom strikes with the longer boom and blades should you retain the same disk height.

Why not stick with 620s or buy the right machine for the payload.

With what you have mentioned I would have to agree with keeping the 620s.

Thanks for the input.

Before anyone comments...yes, I know this is a 2 year old thread and the OP is probably long gone.

However, this isn't a difficult...or dangerous...conversion. I have one (although I haven't flown it much and I'm probably going to part it out as a result). I built mine like this in 2006 and know of a # of others that did. Not saying it couldn't or didn't happen, but I never heard of one throwing a blade at lower, AP headspeeds.

For a boom, the JR "Ergo" boom fits like a glove.

There is a "perfect fit" belt out there as well, but I'd have to dig for the part number/source.

As to the stress on the spindle/bolts...for an AP ship, not an issue. For AP, you'll want to keep headspeed down in the 1600 range. At that speed, the spindle bolts and grip bolts will see the same load as spinning 620s at 2300ish, as many people do.

Use appropriate grips for the latter, and the former is fine.

Don't try to spin the 690s to 2100 though. :O

ETA: This is the belt I have that works with the Ergo boom (JRP983011) out of the bag. " A 6R 3-385025 " from http://www.sdp-si.com. Easiest to just paste A 6R 3-385025 into the search box.

6 years ago it was a great platform to lift a DSLR camera and stabilization gear for it.

Now...not sure it's worth it.
