sorry, you'd have to direct that question to the manufacturers.

however as an example of the real answer:
  1. why do servos not have common plugs?
  2. why do tx to rx transmit protocols vary between manufacturers
  3. why are servo arm splines all different
  4. why are the screws that hold servo arms on all different
  5. why do two HDMI cables that adhere to the same "std" behave differently (especially at distances)
  6. etc
  7. etc
each manufacturer has designed their stuff to work best with their stuff.

you'd also agree that mfgrs have legacies to contend with, sunk costs in tooling, dies, molds, etc that may even still be subject to cost recovery.

Then all they have to do is find one out of millions of fiberglass people to make the shroud for MA.
I imagine Wally could answer as to how easy that really is. You might remember he either has the plugs or had them developed.

The new Century fan doesn't look anything like the fan I have now. Is this based on Wally's fan?

New Predator fan:

Not the same

1. Forces consumer to buy mating gear from their own stock. Some standardization has occurred over the years because you can mix and match servos with receivers.

2. Firmware, software does have advantages even if it is just marketing. Software can be copyrighted which is a far cry stronger than a patent.

3. Same as one

4. Same as one

5. Standard is one thing, quality is another.

If the discussion is related to engine performance then the fan design and shroud should be based on the engine mostly not what it goes into. Maybe it is me. Buying a souped up engine that is limited to the fan and shroud design doesn't make sense to me. likewise it doesn't make sense to have to buy a stock fan and shroud when you get a kit and have to replace it when you order the engine you want.

well, you can use the stock fan/shroud from any of the kits on any of the modified motors on their respective helicopters
