Hey guys,
I am trying to find an electric ducted fan jet. I want one that is not really expensive and not made of foam (not repairable) and retracts. Most of the ones i can find are really cheap foam, fixed gear ones or they are really expensive (1,000 and up). Anyone find anything?

Thanks
A.J.

In case you haven't, try:

I'm not sure if hobby-lobby doesn't have foams, though. Anyway, just throwin some ideas out there, good luck.

The foam ones are repairable. I've seen a guy at the field with a foamy corsair break a wing off. He just used some foam safe CA and was back in the air in 20 minutes. Break in enough and you'll have enough CA on it where it won't break anymore.

HET make some nice ones that meet your criteria, they are widely available. I had a LOT of fun with their F-18 until I did one inverted low pass too many...

AJ, you're asking a lot from a model! Foam makes a great model because it is relatively inexpensive. If it's not "styrofoam cooler foam" it is easy to repair! I am seriously considering the Habu from parkzone. It looks right up my alley for a first EDF.

It's also available as a PNP.

The best quality foam ones are RC lander jets that run metal 70mm ducted fan units on either 4s or 6s(4s is enough), they have retracts but unless you can land a very fast jet spot on every single time the retracts are useless, we have given up with the retracts on RC lander jets and just throw them now, they are too big to throw your self you need a buddy.

http://www.rclander.com/

Of the cheap 3s type jets, Ive found the only one thats any good is the F35 joint strike fighter, they sell it on Hobbyking and all over the place, due to its small size it flies very fast and is a lot of fun, but it has no landing gear, Ive found the normal size 1100mm type ducted fan jets with fixed landing gear on 3s are just not powerful enough, the 3s barely struggles to keep them above stalling speed, the f35 is very small and has over 1:1 thrust to weight, I think there is another one called a mini f16 that is also small and flies well.

If you get one of them with fixed gear you will need to go 4s.

I think the RC lander jets with the metal "electric turbine 70 mm) is the closest thing to a turbine you can get for under $20 000, and there only $400 - 500 bucks, they sound more like real jets than D/F`s.

not made of foam
Did you edit while I was typeing

Have a look at the Rc lander 70 mm, even though there foam they look more like wood and are very heavy.

Composite jets, theres the HET f18, and a couple of bae hawks around on the market, I think Eflite make a nice composite baehawk(horizon hobbies)
