Im just north of houston in The Woodlands. I dont fly at a field but I know there is one up in New Waverly. Tri-county barnstormers. I go to their fly ins once a year. Not sure how many heli pilots they have but they are the closest field to me that I know of. Some others are further south of me. I knew of one called Sparks that was mainly heli i think. I want to say I heard maybe they shut down though. I know there are others so hopefully someone will chime in and let you know. What area of houston are you in? Its a big place, how far are you willing to drive to the field? --- Chris

The fly in I go to is the B.E.S.T. electrics every October. I dont know what other events throughout the year they have though. I have noticed the guys up by 3083 flying. Looked like 4 or 5 cars there the other day. I didnt stop though... thats the only time I have seen them but I dont go that direction too often.

We have tons of Heli peeps.

There is Tom Bass down at the bottom half of the beltway. they have quite a few heli guys.
Then there is Fort bend RC out in richmond where I fly that also has at least 7 or so heli guys that fly every weekend.

basically there are active heli clubs at all sides of Houston you just gotta decide whats close for you.

You're lucky you are up in the middle of houston. I'm down towards galveston and there's only regular RC fields down here. At the field by my house there's only 2 heli flyers and I'm one of them.

To top that the other guy that flies helis knows less than I do. I had to learn everything online, on the sim, and flying by myself. Not progressing as fast as I'd like though. I'd like to fly at a heli field but most are just too far away and I don't know how crowded tom bass is, I would imagine fairly crowded. It sucks flying by yourself, but it also sucks having to wait forever to fly. At my field once the plane guys get there I may only get 3 flights in a 4 hours period.

Can't go wrong with Tom Bass, Sport Flyers or Fort Bend RC. Sport Flyers generally has the largest number of heli pilots each weekend. You can probably get the most of amount of flight time in at Tom Bass. You'll find people of all skill levels flying at all of the fields.

Is there anyone flying in Galveston? My folks live there and I go to visit a few times a year. I've flown a Shogun in Galveston, ( yes its a piece of.....), and slope soared a sailplane off the seawall. That was exciting! Seagulls are not allways friendly!

I'm going to go check out tom bass park on sunday if anyone was thinking about going. It's supposed to be a high of 65 with no wind. Should be a good day to fly. Let me know if anyone is going to be out there.

djrformcar,
There's not a place in galveston that I know of, but there is a place in santa fe and texas city which are both about 10-15min away.

yes you must have a current (2010 now) AMA card to fly at Tom Bass and police and park officials do come by and check periodically.

It's off fellows road on the beltway.

Same side of the Olive garden but north of it on the south bound side. Can't miss it. I usually see them fly around 10:00am or in that time frame. It it is construction site and see a few cars park there too.

bhoff, if you need directions give me a call. Sent you a PM with my number.

Basically you take beltway 8 south, go past 45 about 5 miles or so until you get to cullen. Take the cullen exit and make a left. Head down a block or so and you will see fellows rd(I think it's the first light). Make a right on fellows rd. Go down a little ways past the large pond and the field should be on your left. Should be a road right before the curve to let you turn into the field on your left.

take belt way 8 south after you pass hwy 288 next light turn right (felows rd), follow the road after it curve left is going to be on your right!!! cant miss it!!!
