Best of luck learning how to do that move. Way too complicated for me. Looks neat, however. Really neat!!

Every manouver can be done with a piro provided the air speed doesn't overwhelm the tail rotor. Stands to reason if you think about it. However, it just takes sh!t loads of practice before it becomes natural and even more time for this on both CW and CCW piros. I believe a young mind helps.

I wish we had video of Al Austria's sticks at the OHB. His piro tic tocs were the best I've ever seen. I've watched his sticks when he does them.... VERY COMPLICATED!

Yes it is complicated if you try to analyse them in direct form but if you consider what is going on with respect to the imparting of synchronised stirr in such a way so as to separate out the aileron and elevator inputs, it's not so complicated. It's becomes just another dimension. As a simple example, consider what you need to do in order to walk in a circle while prouetting your body. The same principles apply.

Piro tic-toc, sticks:

Watch at YouTube

This is mostly a view of my sticks, you only see the maneuver briefly in this vid. I posted some better vids in that other thread of what this actually looks like.

If you go to youtube and look up Chris Harmon's E raptor 620se videos from a few years ago, he does the cleanest piro tic tocs I've ever seen anyone do of all time. His channel is ChrisHarmon1

Agreed. Hard to believe that flight was almost 3 years ago.

I saw a guy at a hobby shop doing piro tic-tocs a few months ago and ever since then I've been enamored with this maneuver. Unfortunately it's been completely unobtainable so far. I can do the first half of it where I start from the rotor head tilted towards the ground, and piro tic to the skids side tilted towards the ground and at that moment, I get stuck. I'll get it eventually..

To make the transition from one direction to the other at the apex of the tic-toc, do you have to pause with the cyclic stir for a second, or do you have to move the cyclic stir from the bottom to the top of the gymbal? I still don't get how it's done.

If you can do a nice piro flip you are half way there. Ive been practicing these on the sim and what made it easier for me is to start nose in then give forward cyclic while giving some rudder and stir like you would a normal piro flip, the heli will piro flip towards you then you just need to time it to start your normal piro flip away from you... hey presto 1 piro tick tock, the difficult part is keeping it going but basically once you have piro flipped the heli almost back to nose in but with nose down attitude you push forward cyclic again and start the backward piro flip towards you (everyone does forward piro flips but ive never seen anyone piro flip backwards but that is what you need to do in a piro tic toc to bring it back towards you).

Looking at the sticks, it seems like you're doing a regular piro flip, but instead of stirring the right stick in a circle, your stirring the right stick in an oval. I'll have to try that on the sim and see if it works.

Kind of hard to wrap your brain around.

Also the stick is stirred at twice the speed of the piro.

That's odd. I didn't catch that the first time, but now that you mention it, you're right. He does appear to be stirring the cyclic at twice the speed of the tail.
