on cyclic pitch, how many deg do I need to do 3D stuff? I`m currently on +-15deg, but some say I only need +-8deg? with so little cyclic, will my heli still TURN? TREX600N,SAB blades, CY paddles, cyclic=Deg of your paddles RIGHT!!!

I'm using +/- 12 degrees and I do what ever I need or want to do, plus less chances of bogging the head.

You have +/- 15 Degrees on CYCLICS? Are you sure you don't mean COLLECTIVE?

You can "3D" with as little as +/- 9 degrees of collective pitch, you just won't get as much pop as a heli set up to fly with +/- 12 or more.

You shouldn't need more than 8 degrees of cyclic pitch. Flip/Roll rates are influenced by paddle dimensions and weight as well as flybar mixing ratio. Too much cylic pitch results in the main blades "stalling", which results in the head bogging. For more active performance go with lighter paddles, higher head speeds and better collective management.

I'm using -14/+14 on my flybarless 700 which gives me that jumpy feeling, I just like to use very little stick movements.

I use to run my 600 on -12/+12 which was comfortable.

Edit: oh we're talkin about cyclic pitch?

Oh I just go til it binds, than back off a hair

Fly it like you stole it!!!

Im only running 7 degrees pitch on cyclic and she rolls nice, but hey maybe I should increase to 8 or 9 and see what she can do.

I would say mess with it and see which setting does not bind up the head and then work down from their till you get what you like.

Every pilot is different I think.

This hobby sucks, when your not flying.

just keep doing tight back flips while adding more and more cyclic. When you see a whole bunch of parts raining down, back it back off. j/k lol

Cyclic Control and Cyclic Pitch Control is not the same. I think that's were the misunderstanding is coming from.

In the words of that great immortal..HC
You can do anything with +9 and -9 degrees...if you need more than that after trying it out. Call Curtis, Wayne, Scott or Henry Caldwell for assistance......LOL

Just kiddin' about calling...but seriously though...+9 and -9 will be all you need and for autos -6 and +12 or 13 will work fine..

JMHO and flying style

to clear the misunderstanding... we are talking about the angle of the paddles, not the main blades!!!

Max = +/- 12 collective, +/- 8 cyclic. If you want to run more then you don't need to ask others how much you should run.

cyclic pitch is measured at the BLADES, not the paddles. Nobody uses the angle of the paddles to describe their heli setup.

To measure cyclic pitch, somehow restrict the movement of the flybar and make sure the flybar is not tilted one way or another. Twist the rotor head until the flybar is in line with the tailboom. Set the collective pitch at zero degrees. Then give a full elevator input and measure the pitch change on the rotor blades. Twist the rotor head by 90 degrees and give an aileron command and measure the pitch.

That being said, I typically just max things out until something binds on the helicopter, then back it off a little.

I got a fever! The only prescription is MORE 6HV

^^^ That's true in my case and everything I've seen and read. Dave's method of measurement is what I use. I disagree with running max pitch though. I had 10 deg. cyclic on my 700 this summer, it was too much and became a more manageable and more fun machine to fly when I reduced it down to 8.5'ish. Still WAY quick, all stock head including the paddles just didn't instantly bog on cyclic over commands.

Have you heard of a cyclic ring?
Alot of radios let you program a "cyclic ring" because you don't want all you can get...

Or play around with your expo and fine tune it that way too, you can make it soft in middle or soft on the ends, what ever tickels your fancy.

Try to gain a combination of both cyclic and pitch, like 10 plus minis and as much cyclic without binding, then soften with a bit of expo if needed

Not sure if paddles are the best way ?

Been to Rustenburg when on our way to Sun City few years back, you have great weather there my friend

Cheers

There is NO such thing as cyclic pitch ..it is pitch and cyclic...two dif animals
I beg to differ about no one using flybar paddle angel to set the amount of input for cyclic at full throw.

The only way to control it without the set-up in the very popular cyclic insert on your radio...which is nothing more than a way to keep from setting up your cyclic throws.

I've flown in VietNam (UH-1D and Hughes 500) and when I imput cyclic with my stick it never made my left hand go up or down...I did my pitch separately. Same with RC helis too.

Just clearing the descriptive adjectives use here.
