Salut,

I want to buy a AVS 5.8 ghz on Future Hobbies shop. It came in 250 and 500 mW version. I'm sure that "500" is better than "250" but don't known if i will get, in range and video quality, the difference of 150 bucks between them.
It's my first kit and i don't want to regret so...
Which one should i choose?

Thanks and have good fly!

Between 250 mw and 500 mw you have 3 dbm of total difference and that means you get 1.5 times the range with the 500 mw unit vs the 250 mw one. On the other side the 500 mw unit can give you more troubles with the Rc unit being affected by the RF Tx. I would get the 250 mw unit and invest the difference ammount in a good receiver antenna to keep the same range.

There are no magic trick in antennas, the one with the highest gain (19 dbi) will surely have a narrow apperture both in vertical and horizontal so it will require you to aim it more accuracy to the heli or airplane, which is more or less easy having the heli/airplane within line of sight. The one with 11 dbi will pass you more aiming mistakes because it has a wider reception cone, but at the same time and in equally perfect aiming conditions the one with 19 dbi will allow you to fly double the distance than the 11 dbi.
If I would use it in a AP heli, flight in visual range all the time and I must fly the heli and aim the antena at the same time (antenna mounted in the RC TX tray) I would choose the 11 dbi one.

So is how I mounted my 2.4 one

Due to the high price of both antennas, specially the 11dbi one, and again, if used in a RC heli within visual range, I would test the stock rubber duck ones supplied with the TX-RX combo to see how they perform before spending so much money. Whats your aplication and the range you require?

Hi Elossam,

Just fly around while taking video with a 720p camera, beauty shot from the sky, flying over threes and house, flying around things.
Also take shots from low altitude.I don't think that i gonna need
really long range.
If and obstacle appears between me and my Trex500 i will loose the
signal video?
I use a DX7Se.
I really want to passed where i can't go....under bridge,over rivers...
Thanks again for your helps

oups...i did it again!

Then I would test the stock antennas first and collect experiences, lot to play with them testing different orientations according to the flight position. An obstacle between RX and TX can reduce the signal but unless your planing to fly from the display (FPV flight) you will try to avoid any obstacle between them or you will loose the vision of the heli/airplane too. In visual range it should be more than enough the 250 mw TX and stock antennas to get clear reception but remember the instalation of the TX in your model can show apparently image troubles that are not related to the power of the TX or quality of the RX but related to onboard interferences (engine, RC tx, ESC, electric engine, battery wires...) and that is a trial and error procedure. Good luck
