I've made attempts to fly flybarless back in the late 80's without electronics. Needless to say it was a total failure, the thing never could stay in sustained hover. If I recall, the design was to use as much blade weights as possible to stabilize the heli, of course that didn't work.

Yes I agree the flybar setup is truly an mechanical engineering marvel. To do without it is truly an electronic ingenuity.

We live in an amazing time, and it's only getting better.

Leptron (UAV industrial helis) are flybarless, with no gyros or stabilizers, and they fly quite well... They run 835mm blades, so maybe that helps with stability?

Flybarless has been done since beginning of flight of helicopters, that's not new, the new thing is electronic stabilization..

"...supports mechanical mix too, so that`ll be great for the rappy lads..."

I'm not sure if the comment was to suggest that other flybarless systems don't support mechanical mixing, or just pointing out the Align system does?

But to set the record straight with the Mikado V-Bar, it is also totally capable of supporting non-CCPM (mechanical mixing) like on a Raptor (watched one get set-up and flown at IRCHA). Adjustments just need to be made to the "servo parameters" in the "expert menu" on the "set-up" page, under step four "swashplate servos". When you hold the cursor over the parameters, a tutorial pops-up with how to do it.
