I've started ordering my stuff for an 8S Trex 500 ESP.

Now I just need a motor and packs. I'm not a stick banger and prefer smooth flight. I want a nearly unboggable heli (not b/c I need it), but I want a Neu motor for longer flight times and longer battery life.

The 1708/1.5Y was recommended for hard 3D, but I'm thinking the 1706/2Y will give me plenty of power and be more efficient.

Anybody have any suggestions? The ones in bold are my current options.

Also, if I run a Neu motor, can I get by with only 20C 2200mAh 4S packs in series? I don't really want all the weight of the 30C packs (500+g total), and the 20C would put me at 440g.

a 500 on 8S would be awesome!!! We've got 3 500's at our field all on 6S and the ones with the scorpions are darn near unboggable already. Put in a neu with 8S and wow! I'd also be curious the pinions guys are using with the 8S setup too!

I'd go 1706/1.5y with 8S on a 14 or 15 pinion. This should give you a motor speed of about 32K and a headspeed of about 2700 to 3000 respectively.

Yeah, that sounds good, but why does neu give it a max voltage rating of 28.5V (which is pretty close to what I'd be using).

If you look at the 1905 motor line, the 1.5Y is rated for 6S and the 2Y is rated for 8S. Since the 1706/2Y doesn't list the specs, I was just going by that generalization. I figured it has to be good to follow the motor specifications, right?

I might be purchasing a 3026-1000Kv motor to get the heli flying while I'm waiting for my Neu....

I'd go Scorpion 4025-890kv. Any way that is what I bought for my Logo 500SE running on 8S.

The pinion would have to be like a 24t or something really big for that motor. If I get a scorpion to hold me off while the neu is being built, I will probably get the 3026-1000. I don't know how the 4025 series would fit either.

Yeah, but you're flying 500mm mains right? I'm flying 425mm mains and shooting for a head speed of 2900 rpm. You should be swinging a good bit less with the longer blades.

Well, I went ahead and got the 1706/2Y. The lower motor RPM will make the bearings last even longer. Maybe they'll have one in stock and I won't have to wait too long for it. Hopefully it averages about 600W or less and has plenty of power.

Now I just need the pinion and li-pos...

Thanks for the responses, I couldn't wait any longer, but I hope I made a good decision. The 1706/1.5Y would've been easier to sell if I sold it one day, but the 2Y should be right for 8S.

The nue 1706 1.5 y has a kv of about 1250. It would be fine on 8s.

Yeah, it would, and it is also a good 6S motor that I could sell if I changed my mind, but they say the max voltage is 28.5V which is right below 8S. Also, with the 1000Kv motor, it will be using a larger pinion and spinning a much lower RPM hopefully saving the bearings.

Also, Steve Neu recommended the 1708 motor, and that's a 850Kv motor.

The 1250Kv would have worked, I just figured the 1000 would fit the bill better.
