Because the canopy of the 600 is bigger, and the boom is larger in diameter and longer, plus the larger disc, the 600 has more "presence" in the air.

Also, (and maybe the most important factor in the perception of "size", because a 10S system is capable of so much more power than a 6S system, the "sound" and maneuvering of a 600 doing 3D has much more "presence".

Additionally, I've set a Logo 600 side-by-side on the bench next to a T-Rex 700, and the 600 is (not exactly, but for all practical purposes), as long nose to tail as the 700. But again, a 700 "sounds" bigger in the air.

Physically, measuring the tail rotor shafts to the nose of the canopies, the 600 is 9 inches (about 225 mm) longer than the 500.

Difference doesn't sound much...
I had a L500, upgraded to L600... I too used a 500SE (XL at this time). The difference between 550 and 600mm blades isn't that much in terms of visibility, but you can see the 600 canopy much better.
The flying characteristic of a 600 is much better, too in my opinion. A L500 has ~2,8 to 3kg with 550s. A 600 starts around 3kg with 6s configuration and 3,2kg+ with 10s. The current draw at 10s is much lower (unless you push it really hard) which is a good thing for their life time...
