hi, ordered 10 t tail shaft from extreme.does the stock king 3 belt still work?? Im using just the rear with out the 43t main in hopes of getting alittle extra tail speed and figured it being made of metal may not wear as fast since i broke a belt any way.IM using a 401b gyro with a 290g servo. has a small amount of drift, like a 45 degree change in about a minute in hover, dosn't really bother me but its not perfect.WAs allso gunna try the t-rex tail blades.any first hand experinces are appreicated

thanks brett

p.s. one of the reasons for getting this was i wasn't sure if the stock pulley comes in the tail-shaft set,it doesn't look to be in the picture of the replacement

Stock is 9t. 10t will slow the tail down compared to stock. I've used the stock belt with the 10t and it worked for me. Others have complained that it didn't fit perfectly.

Changing the pulley isn't the direct way to resolve drift. I don't know the 401 (before my time) but many like to set it up in rate mode for no drift first. If you still get drift in HH mode, its likely caused by vibration, or perhaps a small amount of trim set on the rudder channel.

Ok, here you are first hand experience:
- 10T will slow down tail, as Greg pointed
- 401B is quite sensitive to vibrations (have other problems as well).
- Trex blades will help a bit, but not much + more increased chances of vibs (larger mass)

In order to keep tail you would need to have about 12.000 RPM on tail. Then stock blades work just fine in a combination with desent gyro and decent digital servo.

Prove of all this are my HBK videos - tail is rock solid. I have 2800 HS, which results in 2800*43/10 = 12040 RPM on tail. GY401 gyro and 3154 servo. I run 8 mm boom.

Totally agree KV, I have never seen a more solid tail on a King.

HI,thannks for the reply's.gregor i think your wrong about bigger slows down rpm, just like a m/c chain sprockets, bigger smaller motor sprocket makes it better more speed on the hyway wheel turns faster for same motor rpm to go faster.I think i just proved you right gregor sorry.lol confusing my self lol.Im at the point of practicing nose in hovers, usually have pitch curve higher to keep rpm down, for an attempt for longer training per battery, maybe thats why i get a little creep heli kv.iiiii Im waiting on parts now, belt and all. Anybody know if part #0440 comes with pulley with shaft??? or does anybody make a 8t pulley to use.??ILL try the stock one again with higher rpm to see if that helps,or ill get the 43 t extreme front one
if that dosn't pan out,I just don't like you have to use extreme belts only.is the quality of that belt better or is that just hype?
??
thanx Brett

ps i also ordered the hypersion 2500 cx battery for longer flights i hope if fits 34.1 width???

read HKV's post again 2800RPM headspeed. The king2 needs a 10t pinion on a 3800rpm motor and a good gyro to achieve good tail authority. (In stock configuration)

Oh and my MC uses a belt.

The King swirls and gets tossed around when you overpitch it get the pitch down and the headspeed up best thing I ever did for mine with stock motor was go from an 8 to a 10t pinion

HKV the best mod I ever did on my King2 was the 450HDX3550, 282mm CF blades and Trex tailblades all on the fiber frame. Sweet ride that was

Nothing wrong with old school I want to do a bobber but I keep buying planes and heli's.

use a headspeed calculator and assume about 75% of that was always a good rule of thumb for me. By the time you add all the little drags on the system.

this site has a pinion and headspeed calculator in an excel format.

^^ I likes me some grapefruit
ps i also ordered the hypersion 2500 cx battery for longer flights i hope if fits 34.1 width???
2500mAH sounds like a pretty heavy battery for the King. I'm not saying it won't work but it might be a little sluggish. I use 1300 mAH and 1500 mAH bats, seem to be just about perfect weightwise.
Higher headspeed will definately increase tail speed and authority but will shorten flight times as well, kind of a trade-off.

You're in luck. As it turns out, I'm considering the same Hyperion pack (CX 2500) for my Trex Pro. Since its very tight under the Pro canopy, I constructed a cardboard model of the pack using Hyperion's dimensions.

I still have the HBK2 plastic frame, so I did a quick fit test for you. As you can see it barely fits, and pushes up on the plastic tab in front of motor mount. As I recall this also puts it very close to the tip of the spinning pinion. The real pack will not compress like cardboard, so it may not quite fit. If it does, it will be very close on all sides.

This pack is 205 grams. I ran 170 gram packs in the King for quite a while. They worked OK for hovering and slow FF. But when I wanted to do anything more, they were way too heavy. I currently run the Hyperion CX 1600 packs which are only 134 grams, and it handles alot better.

thanx for the info. That sure looks like alot of cardboard lol, I was wondering if it was gonna fit.thanx again.if it doesn't i can use it in my flying wing anyway.I just wanted to practice nose in landing and taking off with that pack,IM ACTULLY getting pretty good already, wasn't as bad as i thought, took about 4or5 flights before i could stay up the whole pack. no canopy gonna fit over all that c/board lol
