yeah, its actually cheaper then what I had before, I only pay 135 bucks a month for premium cable, digital phone, and that internet from charter.

if you have charter I would recommend calling them and getting the upgrade to save money

A couple of Component Questions
Hey guys,

I'm finishing up building my Titan 50 and I bought an Align 2in1 for it but have since read about a lot of issues with the switch failing. I know a few of you guys are using them, have you had any of these issues? Did you do any of the mods to the switch or is this being blown out of proportion?

Also, I bought a CC ICE2 75amp ESC for a Protos 500 I'm building and there appears to be a fair amount of bad press with these also. Are these okay to use or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks,

Jay

IMHO, the 2n1 I would definitely not use. I have first hand seen two of these fail. There are better choices out there because when these fail, they fail big time ($$$$).

The Castle, it can work without issues if set up right and not over taxed. I have several different specs of the ICE speed controller (really like the logging features). Not knowing the setup on your Protos I cannot comment on that but I would use it, look at the logged data (it will tell you if you will run into problems) and go from there

I agree, I wouldn't use the 2in1. Seen many fail. The only switch I would run would be a "fail on" switch. Perfect regulator makes a reg just like a 2in1 but it is a fail on. It has glow monitor built in too. Personally I don't like switches at all. KISS principle. I just plug my packs in direct. Nothing to fail.

As far as castle esc goes. As long as you got the ICE2 you should be just fine. They have been working very good.

I have flown the 2n1 for at least 2 years and the only failure was due to the battery wire breaking due to vibration, the switch hasnt failed but I keep mine well lubed from exhaust fuel and so far it still works!
As for the speedo I have the original ice 75 in my 500 and have never had a problem with that, if you crash and dont hit throttle hold all bets are off ! Bring a fire extinguisher to the field just in case.

When I opened up my 2in1 I saw that the previous owner had put hot glue around the battery wire from the solder joint to where it exits the case. The battery wire has about a 2 inch run between where it enters the case and the solder joint. If unsupported I can see how normal vibration could fatigue a weak solder connection. This glue may have been from the factory. I would open yours up and examine the quality of the solder joint and support the wire with some hot glue if it is not there.

OldNewbie,
Just take the switch out and solder the contacts on the board together so it's alway's on or solder your own switch to it.Ive used the Align 2-1 for the past 3+ year's with hundred's of flight without a single issue.
It's only a issue with the switch, nothing else and very easy to fix if ya know how to solder.

Should I be concerned on the switch I installed?
With the Reactor X, I put a switch in place of the connector loop. Open the system is actice. Closed it is inactive/off.
The switch(Futaba) should never fail in flight since there is no current going through it, right?

Thanks for all the replys. I have read a lot of posts on soldering the switch so it is always on. If that is all it takes to fix any known issue I think I'll give it a try. Unless someone wants to buy an unused 2in1.

No concern at all with the Reactor. It is a very good unit and using the switch it will fail on like Aaron had mentioned. Just remember though, when it is off, it isn't truly off unless the battery is unplugged. So over a period of time it will discharge your lipo

OldNewbie,
There's 3 prong's that the switch run's across to power it on/off,solder the 2 on the left. The only issue is the switch it's self and once you solder the prong's,you won't have any issue's with it at all..
When you open it up,you'll see the very thin piece of metal that fit's inside the plastic on/off slider. That metal piece is the issue with it because it bend's over time (very thin) and doesn't make a good contact on the prongs..

With the Align 2-1,you can solder it to stay on all the time or solder a switch on it..
