Looks like a broken helicopter
It's my Oxy 3. I had it in the air last week and it hovered fine, then I put it in IU2 took it out for a spin and when I spun the tail around it had a horrible tail hunting..... went to plug the iKon back in to work on it now the FBL is blinking red and nothing will respond. Didn't even crash it I just have the landing gear off right now.

I hope to be out on Wednesday weather permitting.... probably just with my 230s though, looks like I have to send my new iKon back to the shop.

Ok guys, I think I'm done for a bit....I am super frustrated. I bought a new set up for a used Oxy 3. Cheap to fix, cheap to fly. New iKon didn't work (or maybe the futaba RX?) got home hoping to set it up with a Spirit FBL unit I had and took it out, tail shakes like crazy...looked up how to adjust the gyro gain, tried to set it in the TX, took it up again. Pumped like crazy on it's own, hit hold and had a boom strike, broke the head. Or maybe just put them away for a while, I have so much invested in them.

I'm not sure I want to continue with this, I'm having a great time flying my little 230s but if that's all I'm going to fly I can do that anywhere.

I will not be out tomorrow, I'll see if I can pull it together for Saturday.

Just bring what you can out and we will get it setup up right, by we I mean Steve. Once you get decent stuff set up right you never have to adjust it again. It has been years since I touched a setting on my 550. Chasing vibrations or other problems can be a pain but there is a systematic approach to catch most problems. When you get frustrated like this step back and let someone else look it over. Others have pointed out problems to me 5 seconds into a test flight and I have seen solutions others couldn't find as well sometimes. Once you have made a lot of mistakes you can point them out to others quickly.
I don't know if Steve makes it out on Wednesdays but other than that it looks like I will be by myself.
Give me something to do and bring what you have out and let me see if I can figure it out. You have me curious now.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Mark, it definately has been a hard couple years for the heli crew, seems like between everyone being busy and losing interest it is basically disapearing which is sad, this year for me has been difficult as I feel like I have lost the desire, partially due to others lack of interest and lack of progress with my flying ( scared to crash due to cost )

I remember 2-3 years ago we had a group photo Steve took on a Wednsday and I think there were at least 6-9 of us there on a normal basis.

Thanks guys, I just got super frustrated. I'm starting to fly pretty good (by my standards) but I can't seem to get a heli all set up, that is what I'm really irritated about. I know I'm not the smartest guy around but it seems like I could get this right. So far this spring it looks like I'm right on the edge, then I change a setting and kill the thing again...LOL.

With everyone being busy I have to learn to do this myself if I want to fly, but it would be cool if we could get a group going once or twice a week or something. At least I can fly the little one with the tail motor, I can crash and rebuild that thing in about 45 mins or so.

Anyhow, I have parts ordered and will try to get something together for next week if I can. Otherwise, if no one else can make it I'll fly at the park

Have you seen the flight test planes? I have a few of them (just for models I haven't really tried to fly them) but they are made out of foam board and hot glue. Only takes a few hours to build them and they are super cheap.

I just remembered I have a trainer plane that is not fully built from the first year I joined the club also. I'll try to dig it out.

Found it, still needs to get finished

You can you should finish it come out of the plane and a helicopter on Sundays. I got a kit build trainer 46 glow engine halfway done and I quit working on but I'd like to get an electric then she wouldn't have to mess with the glow engine

As far as setup goes part of it is being able to read, understand, and follow the manual but another part is experience. Seeing a wobble, bounce, drift...etc... and having a good idea of what needs to be adjusted, gain, stop gain, pot 3 on a beast or something mechanical just comes from experience. You can sit there all day adjusting these settings and get lucky or frustrated or just watch how someone who has done it before does it. I got lucky with my first beast setup up and it just worked. I spent a summer trying to get the wobbles out of a V1 750 on a Fury. On another I asked Steve why it wasn't acting right. Two or three adjustments and test flights later we had that machine locked in.

Right now Monday looks good.

Brian, I know you are right, I just don't know how to trouble shoot these things and I end up crashing/ ordering/ fixing in a never ending cycle and never get to really fly. But I was working on them every day for three weeks and was getting super frustrated. Talked to another guy who put things in perspective and it made a whole lot of sense.... I can fly the 230s, I have two of them so....fly, fly, fly, then just hover and scale fly with my other helis until I get comfortable. Also that means I'm going to be selling some of the "deals" I picked up over the last few years. If anyone is interested I definitely have a Goblin 500 Airframe for sale fairly cheap and probably a few others.

I'm going to try to make it out tomorrow with the 230s and hopefully I'm going to go to IRCHA for a day in two weeks.

Dan, I have the Tiny Trainer almost ready to fly and will likely bring it out and try it on Wednesday.

If setup is a problem I and several other people can get most equipment to a stable flyable state. Don't get frustrated on setup. With modern FBL it is part science and part an art. Let someone you see who can fly in a consistent and controlled manner go over it. If it is just the flying, well, helicopters take some work to figure out. Don't set expectations too high. Push yourself to the point of feeling a bit uncomfortable but not out of control. Steve is the go to person for this but maybe he is taking a break recently.
It helps to see other people flying the way you want to and others having the same problems you do. Last Wednesday was perfect and a solo practice day for me so I can't say what the turn out is these days. I won't be out this Wednesday but if Sat is dry and <20KTS I will be out then.
I don't know how far I would have gotten if there weren't 5 -10 guys out every Wed and Sat when I started.

Would you rather have the OXY2 over the OXY3?

I totally agree, I've had a lot going on this year and I think it got me off kilter....I still think I have to many helis with to many different components so I'm going to consolidate (not get rid of) my collection.

I'm not sure about the difference in the Oxy 2 over the Oxy 3. I bought the 3 used CHEAP. I know the 2 is even cheaper but I have three Blade 230s and have been flying the hell out of them. But I don't like the tail motor, it blows out a lot, especially not that I'm flying around and doing some basic manuvers.

Here is a Goblin 500 Airframe I have FS cheap, if there is no interest I'll put it on eBay.

IRCHA?
Just curious - anybody from the GR area going to IRCHA this year? (I can’t, still healing from the motorcycle crash.) Wondering how the turnout is, given the decline in heli flying?

I had planned on going but don't know if I am anymore, they are not having the same anouncer that they have in the past, they are not having the fireworks this year and from what I understand there are going to be less vendors as well. So theres a lot of changing going on. Not sure if it is worth going from a spectator standpoint as that is what I go for.

Not many vendors left anymore. Besides what you had seen the last couple of years was tremendously smaller than years ago. Hope everyone is doing well besides not a lot of flying going on anymore.
