Whoever leaves their used cigarettes needs to start putting them in a can or something. I counted 20 around my chair and about 50 when I walked to the end.
I will put a can out.
Steve, can you tell Russ to tell the airplane guys to use the can.
I guess end of the year it doesn't make much difference.

If anyone is thinking about coming out but doesn't like the heat I will bring my squirt gun. I can move my chair out and keep you wet while you fly.

I've been thinking about getting people interested in the Heli portion of the club and since we are going into the Simulator season I figured we can work on stuff for spring. So here are a couple of questions that can kick us off

- What draws ppl to RC helis?

- What keeps ppl from RC helis?

If we can put some answers to these questions we can figure out how to draw people to the club and get over the hurdles of why someone might not want to get involved.

For me what draws me is:
-I love aircraft of all kinds
-I love flight
-I like modeling
-I like a challenge

Oh and I love to see a heli do this:

Watch at YouTube

Drawbacks
-High investment cost$$$
-A lot of down time after a crash
-steep learning curve
-endless combinations of highly complex electronics set-ups

I think drawing people to the field even just to watch won't be that hard with a nicely prepared flyer, and that should lead to an increased interest in flying....BUT we need to find some creative ways to address the drawbacks.

The support is at the field, you guys have helped me a ton. So I wonder if there are ways we could address some of the non-mechanical/ electrical / initial flight issues that happen off the field.

Maybe trying to set ppl up with a mentor they can bounce questions off, or a list of club endorsed electronics that most everyone is familiar with and can help set up (I know, I should have given a "trigger" warning for that one ). Or something as simple as a flyer for beginners with contact numbers of guys willing to just talk helis with a newbie.

Sorry for the long post, it sounds weird but after crashing my Gobby yesterday I think I'm more excited about helis, Can't wait until April when my school program will be over!!

Sat and Wed are looking marginal but Monday is forecast perfect.
If there is anyone left who isn't done for the season Monday is my day to fly. If anyone is up for it come out.

My short answer to get more people interested is make it easy for them to find directions to the field.
A flyer with a map and a few emails at places where people interested might look, ( hobby shops, shows, swap meets...) and a current web site is about all I think you can do to start.
They need to come out when people are there to see how it all works and talk to a few people. A 2-3 page handout explaining the basics would also help.

As long as the wind stays like it was today I will be out Saturday in the afternoon. This is probably the last 70 day for the year so get out there.
