Well I guess I am heading to IRCHA this year. Have the hotel reserved and all. Trouble is, I don't think anyone I know is going. So if you see the guy and his red headed fiance standing around with their thumbs up their butts not knowing what to do or who to talk too....that will be me.
Bart just drop her off here first that way you wont have to entertain her

Oh I'm not worried about entertaining her, she likes the hard 3D flying and she'll have a pretty good time. It's just we've got only 1 friend that we think is or was going (not sure yet) and we've never been so we really want to go but would like someone that will you know, buffer and introduce new people. haha.

its going to be my first year!
im actually tryin to figure out how this works ...a friend and i are talking about doing a tent. (if the hotel doesnt work out cause of over booked or whatever the case) if we do the tent its a 15'x8' and can handle 10 people . my question is ..is this too big and can we hook up a generator for a small portable a/c unit.(im sure its gonna be hot and its made for tent use). we are also wondering whats involved with renting a golf cart? do we really need one? also if we do tent it...where exactly do we set up? what site ? how far from the flight line? is there a fee? we most likely will do the tent just cause it makes it that much more fun too!! can we register when we get there ? is it ok to show up around 2 or 3a.m. were lookin at a long drive and most likely wouldnt get there till the weee hrs. in the morning. thanx for any reply!

which way is it going dude!!!!!!?? am i inverted??

On the 72mgs, I imagine it will be the same as last year where 72mgs was allowed only at the Scale/collectible site.

I'm planning on attending for the first time this year as a flyer not just a spectator. I can't wait.

will there be any more sites to fly at this year? last year if you wanted to fly at all you had to wait in line for about an hour.... with that kind of wait time to fly I am less enthusiastic about attending this year.

the wait wasn't nearly that long wingman. down by us, we were able to fly every 5-10 minutes or so. If you're expecting to fly near center stage, you're going to have to wait a long friggin' time. There were even frequent times where there was no one at the flightboxes near us. I'd suggest walking a little further to the ends or fly somewhere else that is permitted.

I was all the way at the end....the only time the wait was 10 min that I could find was at either end of the field at sunrise.

Carl... I know that there were discussions as to if they're going to attempt to open up another flightline opposite that of what we currently fly at, but to my knowledge there has been no decisions made as of yet or even any decisions leaning in that direction.

With that being said, as you know there is an ever-growing number of participants at this event and should definitely expect over 1000 attendees this year. Something will eventually have to open up, but that is something that will have to be developed over time between IRCHA and the AMA, hopefully sooner than later.

The way I see it, is that IRCHA is not the event to attend if you want to maximize flight time. There's simply too many people and even with the current flight line, your "box" is getting smaller and smaller. Eventually we'll all be flying in a 10'x 10' box! Haha. Anyways... IRCHA is about flying, but more importantly, seeing all the vendors and new products, hanging with good friends from around the country, attending seminars, etc. and just enjoying the event as a whole. In all honesty, I fly less at IRCHA than I do any other time of the year.

Well, if you do make it out to the event, we'll all be glad to see ya, but I do understand your point.

Hmm, my experience was quite different. I got more flying in at IRCHA than any other time of MY flying season. At my field, only one person can fly at a time. I guess being as young as I am, I had no problem walking literally to the other end to get an open flight station. I went through nearly 3 gallons over the course of the weekend and several packs on my 450. Hmm, I don't expect to get that much flying this year though...

Wingman,

I kind of gave up on flying at the main site too. Got ALL of my flying
in at Site 3, I believe it is ( N of the main, w. the set-up clinic and Class 1 comp.).....usually mid-late afternoon, was able to get right up to/on the asphalt, lot of times very few around, back to back
flights, no spotter needed, etc. BUT....it was also starting to get
'discovered' by Sat. afternoon though....looked like it's own little
fly-in going on over there.

But really nice to go over there to get your flying-fix in (much more
peaceful), then head back into the thick of it, to enjoy all the rest
of this crazy-cool event!

yea, checking out all the vendors and their new stuff is what really makes IRCHA great but it was a bit overcrowded last year and it seems it will be a lot more so this year..

the crowds will keep growing each year. I think they should open up one of the flight lines for people that are newer to the hobby, and ones that enjoy sport flying. I fly very big circuits and I think I would not enjoy the small box you have to fly in. I still plan on going and that is one of my biggest goals for this year is to fly closer to me and lower to the ground. Its a good thing I am sponsored by VISA cause I see myself needing that a lot this year.

Like Jeff said, its about meeting new people. For me its more the atmosphere than the flying. BTW... OUTBACK is the catering this year....maybe I won't have to cook Saturday night this year
