I have a 1 bedroom apt, I drive a honda civic, gave up heli flying, I grow some of my own food, I donate 20 hours a week to charitable environmental interest's. And you?
I own a three bedroom house, I burn wood for heat, I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Dodge Intrepid, I buy food that was grown somewhere, I fly the crap out of my nitro helicopter, I don't donate anything except crap I don't use anymore to thrift stores. If that isn't awesome enough for you, I am an exterminator that kills everything ranging from the smallest and to the largest skunk. I use many chemicals in many ways, but rest assured, it's okay with the EPA. Just to make it interesting, I also do large scale weed control, with chemicals, on areas ranging from a 400 square foot lawn to a 20 acre parcel.

Sounds horrible doesn't it? Makes you want to curl into an environmental ball doesn't it?

Now, for education's sake, lets break down the REALITY of it:

My 3 bedroom house is a small 1100 square feet. I burn roughly 2 cords of wood in a winter, and my average electric bill is less than $75 a month. Every light in my house is CFL, every door and window is brand new, and the house is very well insulated. All my appliances are energy star and new. I have my own well, and my own septic system. I am not contributing to a huge sewer system, and I am not taking water from a large aquifer. The wood I burn is from natural fallen timber, I cut nothing from the forests, and that wood would rot into the ground, placing it's carbon into the environment verses me burning it, releasing the carbon which then gets scrubbed out of the air by the forest around me. It ends up in the same place. Don't dispute this, it is reality. My food tends to come from locally grown sources, though not all of it does. I don't know where Jack In The Box gets their food.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee is an 02, and gets about 21 mpg hwy. That sounds horrible, but the vehicle is built, and the only resource it continues to use is fuel. My Intrepid is a 99 and gets 32 mpg hwy. It is also already built, and only continues to use fuel as a resource. Try that with a hybrid which not only uses more resources to build than an h2, but continues to use environmentally damaging resources when that battery pack has to be replaced. Buy a new car, any new car, you use up resources. Just keep using your older car, it is better for the environment.

Now, my job. The chemicals I use, and the way I use them are much less environmentally damaging than the products you would buy at the store. My job is necessary because it reduces the spread of disease, filth, and environmentally damaging invasive species. While I applaud your 20 hours a week environmental donation, I am positive my job does more for the environment than whatever you are doing. Have you reduced the spread of west nile virus in county wide situations with your donated time?

The helicopters, well, nothing can be said about that except I don't see the point of coming on a helicopter site if you don't own them anymore.

In closing, I calculated my carbon foot print one time just for giggles. I barely put a ton into the environment annually. Can you say that? Living like a pauper and foregoing everything for religion/environmentalism doesn't demonstrate good ecological thinking. Living a quality life while thinking and living as environmentally as you can is demonstrating good thinking.

I put my way of life up against most environmentalists all the time and always come out ahead. The only way to beat me is to walk out into the woods, build a mud hut, eat twigs, and sleep in your own feces. But who wants to live like that?

Your talking about domesticated aquarium coral. Sorry but that has almost nothing in common for wild coral. Your coral has been engineered and bread to withstand temp swings like that. Go try to get some wild coral and see how long it survives. LOL it won't even make it onto the boat.
You need to do some research yourself before popping off at the mouth. Most of the coral in my tank is from colonies that came from the ocean. Some are actual specimens from the ocean. Most of the corals are sps and are fairly sensitive, but still can handle much more change than what all of the tree huggers would like you to believe. Some corals have been tank raised and are more hardy, but most have not been. Also most fish in the aquarium trade are wild caught also. You have no clue of what you are talking about so keep on drinking the kool-aid.

Global warming. I dunno, reduced silinisation in the gulf stream backflow from polar meltwater. etc etc
Great winter so far, just like it was 40 years ago, along with good summers apart from the rainy ones. The climate is volatile, it allways has been. We are at the end of the last ice age. Average global temperatures are now increasing which will aid the defrosting and liberation of the methane gas stored in our oceans. It will start to get real sticky in 10 years time with the aveanche effect. etc etc etc
This planet is a living thing in its own right. We simply have to do our thing and adapt and conquor.
Biggest problem is population and the feeding of. Do we have another major war/cul to cut population, or do we begin to act responsably in the management of our resources in the truest sence ?
This issue is bigger than any single govornment or power. It's personal and ultimately challenges us all in what we are prepared to do (scarifice/give up) in order to maintain some degree of status quo for the survival of the human race.
China. eek.
Need to think small not big
ECONOMY
What is enough to survive realistically comfortably?
We don't need to be screwing with resources to travel when the internet does this for us all.

"You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps and all leather cow interior and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights. Yeah! And I'm gonna drive around in that baby at 115 miles an hour, getting 1 mile per gallon, sucking down quarter pounder cheeseburgers from McDonald's in the old-fashioned non- biodegradable Styrofoam containers! And when I'm done suckin' down those grease ball burgers I'm gonna wipe my mouth on the American flag and then toss the Styrofoam containers right out the side, and there ain't a God-damned thing anybody can do about it. You know why? Because we got the bombs, that's why!

Two words--nuclear ****ing weapons, OK? Russia, Germany, Romania - they can have all the democracy they want. They can have a democracy cakewalk right through the middle of Tiananmen Square and it won't make a lick of difference, because we've got the bombs, OK? John Wayne's not dead - he's frozen! And when we find a cure for cancer, we're gonna thaw out the Duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off. You know why? You ever taken a cold shower? Well, multiply that by 15 million times. That's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be."

Doesn't bother me in the least. I don't have kids and the climate will be able to sustain life through out my lifetime so I have no worries. The people who are gonna have issues are the bible belt F150 driving americans with 3+ kids. As for you guys flying heli's being bad? I don't think that. I think if you wern't flying your heli's you would be out mudding in your f350 or just driving it around the trailor park showing off your shiny new rims. So please please, fly more heli's.

That right there, is why I can't stand brain washed die hard liberals. They stereotype every conservative and libertarian voter as stupid redneck trailer trash. maxpower, you're a Jerk!

Dude, I wouldn't sweat it. From limited mindsets come limited comments.

Personally, I do worry about the future because I have an 18 year old daughter who will someday have children of her own. I have relatives with children. I have good friends with children. Apparently Maxpower was hatched from a test tube and has no brothers or sisters, nieces or nephews, or friends with children that he would care about as much as if they were his own. Must be nice. Between my family and my wife's family, and my good friend's families I have a lot of kid's future to worry about.

Or is it redneck and offensive to care about kids now? I always thought it was the lefty technique to use kids and their future to push the green agenda, this is a new spin. Interesting....

Too bad I sold my F150, it had pretty decent rims and I am sure I can find a trailer park somewhere to show it off to all the welfare recipients (who lean a bit to the left if my math is correct).

I'm glad I sold my cobra. An inappropriate car for todays roads but it was fun and agile. However, all 4x4 vehicles for normal road usage should be banned as they are dangerous, a menace to everyone else and they own their owners egos, who seem happy to enjoy a virtual labotomy.
A global warming would be good right now. My feet are cold.

i`m doing my part for global warming...

instead of buying a new hybrid for $40,000, with the amount of energy used to make a new car. i got me a used one

for the $40,000 i can drive this bad boy for 150,000 miles and a 0 carbon foot print on the energy to make a new

after a little tune and some new parts this puts out 0 emissions just like a new car

and it has 200,000mi on it

Hey, we're all going to die someday, even our kids and their kids. It's not worth worrying about, doesn't do any good. Right now their playing us for everything we have with all their scare tactics and many of you are falling for it.

speak for yourself. I'm cursed with never going to die due to a chemogenetic regenerative condition; so it's real important to me (and my children) how the world will be in 2176 years time.

Try living in Ohio and not owning a 4x4. It's a necessity during the winter.

1st off get it right! I didn't hatch from a test tube, I crawled out from under a rock! Honestly your comments speak for you. Pretty much the reason I quit flying heli's was the community of , how you say?,,, not very smart people. I was actually having a debate with my brother earlier about how the country and economy got so bad so quick. He's much smarter then me and he said plainly, "ITS THE ME GENERATION!" Meaning the people 40+ running our country now care nothing about whether their kids will have SS as long as they get theirs. They don't care if their grandkids die of skin cancer as long as they are not inconvenienced in their daily life. As many have said, you plainly don't care if your actions end humanity as long as you get yours.
