It's official! I absolutely love my new 9503 (Heli version).

I just moved from a Spektrum DX7 as I needed another channel for a HeliCommand and Co-Pilot II.

The backlight is tremedous, I can do everything w/ my right thumb. The autostart timer hooked to the throttle is really slick and the timer can be controlled / reset from the main screen. The autostart only works if you have a count down timer. A count up timer does not autostart.

The programming is much easier for me than the DX7.
I like the fact that every new model defaults to "Heli".

They say the software is the same as the 9303, and while I can't speak to that, I really like the ease of navigation through the lists.

A question.
Will I be able to use the JR9503 as a master to the DX7?
More likely will be that I give my brother the DX7 in exchange for his DX6i.
Would I be able to use the 9503 as a master to the DX6i?

I just notice that the x9503 is made in Malaysia, but the x9303 is made in Japan.

Well that would acount alot about the price I would think. Anything made in Japan will cost you. But I am sure the quality will be up to JR's specs. I own the X9303 going from Airtronics PCM on my gasser.
With the Airtronics PCM I did have some glitching problems, because of maybe bad bearing or a magnito banging out 30,000 volts inside a full carbon frame ,,who knows but once I installed my X9303 I haven't had one problem. Flawless. Although I never missed having it backlit or auto timer functions it would be nice to have I guess. You guys are gonna love this radio.!

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Got my 9503 in Thur. Setup my Vibe last night. The backlight is very cool.My 9303 was from the first year so these are a few other things I found that my old 9303 didn't have:

Throttle hold delay(delays hold till throttle stick is below a certain point)
Throttle delay(Slows throttle responce when bailing out of an auto)
And of course the stick timer

The case seems to have a more brushed appearance in the areas where your hands will contact it with normal use, hopefully that will make it more immune to lifting from sweat and grit from your hands.
I think at the current price point and with JR support this radio is going to be very popular

Is anyone selling the X9503 radio only? I have had my DX7 for a few years now and I like it but the X9503 looks real nice. One thing I miss that Futaba used to have was assignable switches, not sure if the X9503 has that?

9303 model memory not transferable to 9503
I heard today that you can not transfer models from memory in the 9303 to the 9503. Further the 9503 can not save models in JR Data Safe on a PC.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

I can't believe that no one can do a search to find what I am referring to with Spektrum. There are many posts on here and Heli freak about glitching and complete lockouts while using "spektrum" based 2.4. It had nothing to do with added capacitors or low battery voltage. There is also the issue of loosing the bind between receiver and Transmitter. It happened more than once with my X9303 in between flights with no changes other than a refueling. My friends Synergy with a X9303 and AR7100, redundant battery setup, locked out on the second flight in a hover. The heli was in the air for under 1 min, in a hover tipped slightly and went in, had absolutely no control. Any way fly what you want, I WAS a JR proponent until the above lock out and crash. Enjoy the video.

Hmmm... I agree they will maintain the quality to a large degree but it's an unfortunate change IMO. There is a lot to be said for stuff made in Japan. But it's undoubtedly how they achieve the cost reduction.

Jadams, knock on wood since spektrums been out I haven't experienced or seen such a thing. As a question did you have the rx an tx inspected afterwards by spektrum to determine this ??

I got one of the very first JR X9303's and haven't had any problems on nitro and gas heli's.
It was interesting to see the jet crash as I did have a plank go in exactly like that with my X9303 and the 7 channel rx. I returned the rx and JR found no problem and I thought BS!!! But while looking further I found two problems. I had a bad intermitent switch AND I didn't setup the failsafe correctly. When I would turn on the TX then the RX both AIL's would go up then when bound would return to neutral.
It was my fault. It looked like that is what happened to the jet. There was a power problem and the failsafe was programed wrong and both ailerons {or maybe elevator or both} went to the up position and it then dived into the ground.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

+1. I would prefer something to be made in Japan as only electronics with high end technology are made in Japan.

I read, and read, and read all the threads about radios before I bought mine. It sure seems like people are too quick to blame the 2.4 Spektrum radio. I have a 9303 and so far no problems. I do NOT use a 2-in-1 or a regular switch. I also don't use a switching type regulator. I use Fromeco Arizona regulators with the pin switch.

That sure was a cool ball of fire on that jet crash.

a friend of mine crashed big planes using spektrum, I built him a triple power solution, with 20a on each system.
Guess what it still failed, turned out that the powerbus inside the receiver (even on AR9200) fails enough to cause a brownout.
So a powerbox solution was the only way if he was going to fly spektrum.

Those guys only fly Futaba now.

That said, I fly my 12x, previously I owned a 9303, if it wasn't for the stick feel of the 12x I wouldn't have switched I really loved that 9303 radio, so the 9503 would be a easy choice.

wow no kidding fredrik!!

If more stuff was deisgned around Futaba I'd consider their radios as they're good to but so many BNF items, modules built for the Spektrum satts seems to be way to go.
