Trex-500 is my choice, it's as stable as the the bigger helis yet can fly almost anywhere, I flew mine in the front yard almost everyday, much, much easier to see compared to the 450...I had it tuned down and using 6s 3700mah with 15+ minutes of fly time without abusing battery (put back 2500mah)

What are the weather conditions like during the season?

If it's windy then go for the 500 category. The 450s are fine in good weather but a handfull when the wind picks up.

go with a heli that can actually swing 500mm or 550mm blades...not just a number in a name.

If you want something small to keep in your car for quick flights I wouldn't go above a 500 at this point. I love the 450 helis, they seem to be the most versatile of them all. I will always own a 450 model. Don't just look at the 450 Pro, there is the Rave 450 which is great, the Beam, the Furion. The other thing you mentioned about them seeming like toys, haha,, wait till you see some of these electrics then tell me they are like toys. My Logo 500 FBL is very impressive in the air and is anything but a toy. Even these 450 models are awesome in the air and must be treated with as much respect as the bigger helis, because they can do alot of damage to you as well. I'm sure whatever you pick, you'll be happy with.

When u don't feel like soaring through the air with a plane, beat it into submission w/ a heli!

I have the 450 and 500 and the 450 sits on the shelf, and the 500 does all the flying for park stuff, it sits in the car behind the seat and is no prob to carry, and a much nicer heli to fly

Have money pit,but small shovel !!

Well, let's just say I jumped into the electric thing head first. Got myself a Logo 400 with V bar and have a protos on the way. The Logo 600 is probably soon to follow.

Electrics
I left the hobby for a long time, had a Sceadu, Freya, Raptor 60, etc. When i came back, I bought an Trex 600 Electric, and man I am glad I did. Electric is the way to go. No mess, just charge and fly. I get to fly a lot more, never runn out of fuel. No spending all day trying to get the needles right on the motor.
