That looks like a nice, beefy clutch. Will work well with a gasser.

Hi all,

I get stuck..... I am waiting for the bearings and the metall clutch bearing block.

So the only thing I can do today is to follow Zorbas recomendation...

zorba
I was looking at the photo of your 700. One suggestion I have is to move the pull-start cord on the carb side. Is easier to control the start up in case something does wrong.
wich makes sense to me. Thanks Zorbas!

I checked the clutch mentioned above

url]http://www.helidirect.com/lynx-trex-700-heavy-duty-clutch-set-p-17103.hdx[/url]

But this clutch is also made for methanol engines and therefore did not necessarily meets the criteria for an "gasser clutch" with regard to engine torque and clutch engagement speed.....or am I not right ?

thanks
Chris

Raja's generator install
Ok so I got my generator setup and it is a top notch unit with first class craftsmanship. The pictures pretty much speak for themselfs. It also comes with very clear instructions. First was to install the stepped shaft into the torque tube gear shaft. My shaft had some rust inside that I need to clean out and i just worked it in there and blew it out and cleaned it up and the next step will continue tomorrow.

Chris the clutch that Ali recommends is the stock Align clutch. This one is beefier and HD I think it will work.
Remember the idea for the HB gasser kit is to use all stock Align parts. So if you use this clutch all the better.

Cheers

Wow its there already?
Man, Hawaii is "special". Every time I mail something there, it arrives faster than something going down to Florida for example, or the east coast. Guess its an island and it can only fly there, that thing took 2 days Sunday included that's fast!

Sorry,no videos tonite. Don't have the right cable for the camera we used today. Anyhow, put a few more fights on her today. No problems in the warmer weather. Still taking it easy though. Decided to pull the motor and check stuff out. Man, that was easy. 10 minutes and its out. This kit is a breeze to work on. Took a few pics after I got the motor out. Plug looks good. Gear looks not so good. 40 degrees and 4hp don't mix.

When in doubt, gas it!

Sorry to see about that main gear. I have had no problems with my main gear and have not noticed any ware either. I do think the striping is caused by the cold and High HP. I also installed the stator gator (RC version) and I included some pics of the wire install which eliminates the kill switch.

Kill switch
Because you're using the stock air cleaner box, you still have a kill "switch". If you ever need to quickly shut off the motor, just close the choke and it will die instantly no matter what the throttle setting is.

I have noticed my gear has wear on it but nothing like yours and the reason is I fit a predator clutch in mine with a bell that doesn’t run true, did you update the engine bearing block? What state are the block bearings in now?

Fixit,

Yes I am using the Align metal clutch bearing block which was new when I built the conversion last week. Stripping the gear was totally my fault. It was only 39-40 degrees F here that day and I was running 2200 HS in idle up when I slammed the stick to the top right off the ground. It took off incredibly fast but only lasted about 3 seconds before the gear gave up. I had no problem during any of the flights so far. Only when I punch it right off the ground. So far I'm loving it. Going to try the Lynx clutch when it gets here tomorrow.

When in doubt, gas it!

Is it possible you had too much play in the gear between it and the pinion?

Is it possible some screws that hold the gear mesh got loose and it moved?

Generally speaking those things will cause it, just wondering...

Gill, do a search on the gv-1 setup by me. I did a good thread here of how to setup the gv-1 step by step.

Generator install Finale
So i continued the build on the generator. Drilling the holes was a little bit of a challenge but you have to take your time to do it right and you wont have any problems. I used a 90 degree piece of carbon fiber i had left over from the old frames and used that to get everything square. then i used a C-Clamp to hold everything together. I proceeded to drill the holes and making sure every step of the way to see if its still lined up properly. I bolted everything together and checked it again and it all lined up. So here are some pictures. Enjoy

I think if you cut a half circle in the aloy under the three wires coming out of the motor it would stop any risk of them rubbing.

If the temp is to blame then it’s worrying to me because 39-40F is probably the temp we have to fly in for at least half are flying season but I've a feeling more factors are to blame.
I might look at trying an alternative main gear the next time I need one.
