If its an active landfill, then ya probable depending on if you are downwind. If it isn't active and they are recycling the methane it produces then probably not.

The site is an active landfill however the flying field is far enough from the action that it has not been an issue. You will need to check in and out of the guard gate. No camping is allowed.

Ok... hopefully one of the locals can give us some ideas on the different RV Parks....

Walmart is out of the question... generally their rules are overnight only and only for 1 nite... you really cant setup shop for a whole weekend at Walmart.

I just booked the Days Inn for $53.95 a night for 2 doubles. It is 3.2 miles from the site. You can get a $50.95 rate but there is no cancellation if plans change.

How did you find that one, Dwight? I've been doing numerous searches on the Super 8 website and that location doesn't come up

My bad! I am sorry for the mis-post. It will be corrected. The Super 8 was 13 miles but only 43.95. This looked better anyway.

I just got a TFR notification email regarding a no-fly zone in the area:
FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER CAPE CANAVERAL, FL, TO BEGIN SATURDAY A notam has been issued that will restrict flight in the area during NASA’s planned shuttle launch. See AOPA Online for a graphical depiction ( http://www.aopa.org/images/whatsnew...ams/shuttle.gif ).
==> 40 nm radius TFR <==
Location:
MLB VOR's 004-degree radial at 30.6 nautical miles Surface to 17,999-ft-MSL
Times:
9:34 p.m. local Saturday, February 6 until 5:15 a.m. local Saturday, February 7
Requirements for flight and operations not authorized ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams-special.html )

==> 30 nm radius no-fly zone <==
Location:
MLB VOR's 004-degree radial at 30.6 nautical miles
Surface to 17,999-ft-MSL

Times:

It got me thinking...do these Shuttle launch/landing TFRs encompass the flying field where this event is to be held? If so, has this event date been bumped against the Shuttle Launch/Recovery schedule (for what it's worth)?
