The Ikarus Eco 8 electric heli. It had a brushed motor and a 10s Nicad Pack; it was good for hovering and basic circuits.

It's amazing how far we have come considering I have only been in the hobby for 12 years.

started with a eSky Belt CP...
cheap cheap cheap to fix, then the clone market pretty much killed it and the electronics were about as dependable as a ford tempo

JR Venture 30. Went from first lift off through loops and rolls with it. Looking back, it actually flew quite nicely.

Mine was in 1983, a Kalt Baron 20 - it had an OS25 fitted which I later swapped to an SC32.

That Helicopter is 30 years old now & it still flies, It is the one in the pic below.

Given the age of this Heli, I have bought numerous spares to keep it going, so many in fact that I now actually have a 2nd one under construction from those spares and still enough left over.

GMP Rebel
Used Futaba S148 servos, Futaba Gold Tx, Enya 35 rc engine, no gyro.
This was my first attemp at a heli!!! Actually did learn to hover, and it was a handful without a gyro!!
Later on when it was looking promissing, I bought a Century (pre-JR)
radio, and a Futaba mechanical gyro...WOW.. not long after started forward flight..I was BITTEN..
Bought a used GMP Cobra...then it was off to the races!! Never looked back!! My friend found a nib Cobra kit while traveling and bought for me since that was my first collective machine.. it now hangs on my wall in the shop.. after about a 2 minute hover...
Been a long ride but have enjoyed it for along time..

Concept 30dx slowly converted to a SE, then put in a Hughes 500 body. It was real fun when I forgot to turn on the mechanical gyro Still have it, plan to fly it again. Maybe on it's 20th birthday

GMP Cobra
It broke or I crashed it nearly every time I flew it, but I don't know that I've had as much fun with any of the 30 or so helis I've had since as I did flying that first one over the swamp in Puerto Rico with Willito.

Kalt 60 and GMP Cobra
I learned on the Kalt 60, it took forever to learn to hover, but the size made it stable.

With no other heli flyers around the learning process was slow. I used training gear until I was stable, it saved me lots of money.

Years later sold both and went all electric. So much cleaner! And, I could fly at so many places without disturbing others.

My first Heli was a Ishimasa Playboy with mechanical Gyro until the tail rotor blade grip let go and hit ground hard , not much left of it , after that was my trusty Kalt Space Barron s with a pizo rate Gyro and a OS 32 engine , good old plastic fantastic they named it , learnt to fly on this Heli with lots of success , it was the best hovering Heli at the time in My hands , loved it still have it now as a shelf ornament but want to fly it again after I clean the birds nest out of it ....

Heh-heh-is that what you would call an avian mobile home?

My first was the cricket. I now have a stable of a nitro T Rex 750, two nitro 650s, two electric 500s and two electric 450s. My wife flys also so all the birds get used.
Helicopters are 20,000 loose parts flying formation.
