Tail Blades length
Hi,

I noticed with the kit that I assembled, the length of the tail blades are 95mm. On the century website by part number HI3099BK the tail blades are 85mm.

What is the length of your tail blades?

I talked to Century about tail blades and the gentleman I talked to said the Radikal best flys on 85mm tail blades.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

What do you mean "possible"? Have you taken it down, and inserted the sleeve to open the bearing up to clean it? I'm running one that I cleaned, its doing fine..The hotter engines will have a upgrade later on with a optional clutch as well...

If you find that you have a bad part, I'm sure Century will do as they always have, and replace the part...

clutch---oneway
Hello Billme
Just what sparx stated, the mains spin normal clockwise and are tight or do not spin counterclock wise, let sit for 30min and will spin which may indicate clutch issue. This is what my heli did spun clockwise and when i tried it 3hrs later it spun counterclock wise also and was not tight. I will take the engine out and have a look, not really sure what to look for if the clutch is the problem etc I may have been hasty in referring to warrenty but my thoughts are only 1/2 gallon on engine....any direction appreciated.

Sounds like you used the spacers between the hub, and clutch to raise the clutch more into the bell...I have stated before that these shims should not be used because it allows the binding when the motor heats up, the cranks shaft grows a little casing the binding...

Also take note of the special washers used on the threaded inserts to hold the bell more secure as explained in the fyi a few post back...

clutch---oneway
Hello Billme
Thanks for the quick response. Are you referring to the clutch shim Pg 22 #14. I believe I added those as per instructions and possibly added 2 as it says most likely need 2. If this is the case can I remove them and re-use the clutch. Not sure of the special washers you make referrence to if possible can you repeat, I basically followed the manual and when I had time made referrence to the fyi pages..

ran 2 tanks through my radikal today, fairly smooth and tail hold quite well with the solid g. slight burble on spool up then cleans right out and runs pretty smooth. looks like a winner.

Yes, just take them out...

About the inserts read about it here:

Page down to bell housing insert, in fact, read the whole page because its got some of the best important info on other topics as well

clutch---oneway
Hello Billme
Thanks for reply. I have engine out. I think I can make a spanner wrench out of wood and bolts I seen one somewere on runryder, are you or others using anything other then the piston locking tool to remove clutch. I am checking on a piston locking tool but it may not be the right one. I am going to remove the 2 shims and then re fly it and see how it goes. Thanks for all the help. You were correct that the gasket for muffler is not great, Any recommendations if a person goes to a small engine shop?? I am hoping to have the heli back up and running by May 1 as there is a really good heli get together in our area and usually someone from century is there or someone who knows lots about century, so I may be able to get some good tips for the radikal

Vario makes a thin copper gasket.. If you want to use a gasket, that is the one I suggest..Dave motors has one, but its .040 thick...

The way I do it is I take a flat edge, and glue 250 grit(minimum) sandpaper..I rub the connections to get the high spots off, and then bolt them together..Re tighten after the first flight, and that is the end of it..

I made my own piston lock..You can drill out a plug, and insert a wood dowel if you like.. round off the end as in the pictures of the the FYI.

You can also build as you said a wrench with pins, dowels etc to tighten the clutch..

spanner wrench
Hello Billme
this may be a DUH question. I use the same setup spanner wrench and piston lock to take the clutch off as I do to tighten the clutch....it is early in the morning.

Yes, make sure your spanner wrench is on the part of the clutch that does not expand the shoes..If you used locktite, then heat the hub pretty good so as to make it easier...

spanner wrench
Hello
Well if all else fails why not follow what the pros on here tell you...Thanks for the advice on the placing of the wrench and heating up the clutch....if only I would have followed the advise heheh...anyways one wrecked clutch shoe and I have it off.....I tried to make some makeshift wrench and did not want to take the cover off to heat it......once I took a 2x4 drilled holes inserted bolts heated clutch 30seconds it came right off hmmmmm $45 clutch so anyone else reading don't look for the quick way just take 2 min and drill 2 holes and 30sec of heat or follow my direction and spend $45...

main shaft moves up/down
My main shaft moves up/down not alot but some. checked things over and all is per manual and looks ok. this is with the front part of heli off and engine out, so possible will tighten when everything is in place. Any thoughts as I don't want to put it together to have to take apart again if play up/down still there.

Crossover support
Just loosen the split collar and re set it....

Also, while you are going to order another clutch, also get a reinforcement cross over like the one near the starter, and put it where the rear canopy mounts are to stiffen up the top frame more...Use bolts and cut off the heads after you screw them in, and add a nut to tighten..Screw the canopy mounts on.

Radikal Belt
My belt seems to be shedding a little too much. I have tried changing the tension, but it still leaves black dust on the main gears and the tail pinion.
Is there a after market belt that will fit. I think if it was a little wider it would help.
I have not even put any real load on it yet, I am still breaking it in. i am afraid when I get to start to 3D, it may get worse.

Thanks

AG
