If you have cataracts and are on Medicare, it's free!
Seriously, I personally would not recommend any eye surgery to anyone. I only tell of my experience with mine. Reesy is right, any surgery is risky. This is a decision only you alone can make after careful research and the review of all options. I certainly would not want to be the one that convinced someone to have this done that had a major problem afterwards or just wasn't happy with it. I've heard of good and bad results with laser so any way you go can be a risk. You have risk of infection and retinal detachment in the case of lens replacement surgery. Fortunately I'm past some of that. Cataract surgery is performed on over three million people a year in the US alone.
