Suppose to continue raining thru tomorrow afternoon. Rain next Sat forcast, but sunny Sunday.

Times like this would be good to have Hobbytown allow us to use their big room to have a setup workshop and other stuff. I could ask John if we could use it if there were enough interest.

Two weekends ago the heli guys me included we talking behind the cars in the 2nd row while one guy was flying his EXI 450 there away from the airplanes. The plankers were doing their thing along the runway, when one guy starts yelling. We look up and it is a Typhoon 3D with its wings snapped and daggling in a trio bound by his servo extensions. It crashed about 150 ft from us. The guy yells towards us and said thanks fellas. What?

Last weekend hammer was strolling thru the jet plankers and was talking to them. Later he said one guy complained that it is hard to fly his airplane when a heli is flying in his face. I would agree it is hard to fly an airplane or anything for that matter with a heli flying in my face. But really is any flying in any plankers face? If anything those plankers can't land without boucing and crashing into the curb which is the only protection from them. Over the years, not at WIC, I have never seen a heli be a safety issue, but on numerous occasions plankers run into me, or buzz the pilot stations while I'm flying and they are landing or whatever they do. A Little Stik racer fly full power into a spectator in the spectator zone and on and on.

I don't know nor care who was at the school first, because I pay lots of taxes for that campus and I intend to use it in repayment.

WIC
I would agree that there is a large number out at WIC. Flying space is limited and with more and more of us it takes some time to get a flight in. Most of the guys out there are pretty cool. The group on sunday enjoys watching a show and I get along with most. There are a few wich would rather not have helis out there as I think helis might be stealing some of thier thunder. I appreciate the time spent and the skill level it takes to fly both. However I do not believe that the feelings are mutual. I would love to find another place to fly. After all the sun can be a bit bothersome and having a dedicated heli field would have its advantages. It is much like skiing and snowboarding. I thought with the 3d airplane pilots would bring heli and airplane groups together, and eventualy it will.

We should start posting some locations. I know that Chris and Paul have another spot. We can always fly out at FRCM but I think we will eventualy have the same situation.

If hueys place was larger and was setup opposite it would be nice. Doesn't anyone know some on with a big open feild? Old farmland? Foothills? I have a craigslist listing to help find a new place as well.

CH47 your idea of the lost lake feild is a good idea.

It will buff out!

I think I will drive around in the rain midweek and look for sites. Can't get enough guys to pay for AMA membership and FRM club dues then fly as a group at the field. They have many SIGs or Special Interest Groups, like racing, scale, and pattern, IMAC, and IMMA.

The soaring guys at Lost Lake might baulk, but it is a public park and we would be out of each others way. May have to limit it to electrics.

I dont get why that guy was yelling when his plane broke? what did the helicopter people have to do with it?

I do agree I dont think we should fly or hover right in front of them as swirling rotorblades dont make anyone comfortable. As far as the noise, I have a quietpower pipe on my raptor and it makes less noise than those ducted fan jets I've heard out there. I think most heli mufflers are quiet like that

in all fairness to us, it is a public place that we pay tax dollars for too, and it isnt a club with "exclusive" membership or aircraft types either and so we have the right to fly there just like they do

I was going to help chbrjade with his setup over at my local flying site, Wawona school since he lives near me. But with this wind and light rain I think I'm just going to wait

We were no where near him. It looked like it failed the glue test and the comment directed toward us.

Well put. I am still a member at FRM. If you drag an airplane out and fly it once, everyone thinks "you are one of them". Maybe we should bring a bring a plank, even to just sit there by your heli. WIC will probably be gone by late next year. They will need more parking as it is almost at cpacity on Sats or they may have more buildings to put up for the campus. So we need to start looking soon.

I wonder if Table Top or Chickchansi Indians would let us fly on their reservation? I think some of the land borders Millerton Lake. Millerton is good during winter at the middle boat ramp. Rangers allow it and it is wide open spaces and little wind with less likely fog. I heard a drain field out east of tollhouse road could be available. It is part of the flood district. It's there only in case of a flood and doesn't get much water even in the winter.

Honestly, I dont know why you need to look. If they dont like the helis, they are welocme to go elsewhere. I was flying helis at FRM and left after I got a few rude comments directed at me. Hindsight being 20/20, I should of just stayed there and let it be tough shet for whoever didnt like it.

The day a planker tries to rid me of flying at WIC, I wont have a problem ruining it for everyone else since I discovered the place before the school was even finished. Granted its not my property, but I was the enabler.

Another idea....I used to also fly across the street from WIC at the church. I was welcomed there and even asked to put on a 4th of July show for the crowd before it got dark.

You can fly at WIC until the sun becomes an issue and move to the church b/c you face east when you fly over there.

I use to also fly east to west at the south side of the runway toward the end of the day at WIC, but then again hardly anyone was ever out there.

I have been an FRM member since 1990, but I'm on leave of absence right now. I dont know if I'll ever go back. Its just too far to go to fly. Even WIC is a little far for me but I enjoy your company so that makes it worth it.

I remember being a plank flier at FRM and having a "new" helicopter pilot learning to hover near the end of the runway. He was definitely in the way.

I would say in fairness to the long runway users that newer heli pilots learn to hover and maneuver at the grass area behind the runway or off to the side somewhere. And for 3D, not to do it over the heads of the plankers while they are flying. I dont like that myself.

But I think if we are behaving ourselves and doing what we can to fit in then those other guys are just going to have to get over themselves.

Maybe I can win them over with my mild flying scale ships. All I do is fly a basic pattern with them....

Oh man... What did I miss? I've been keeping an eye on this particular post and on rare occasions does it gets this active.. LoL. It's unfortunate that its looking like its becoming a pissing contest between helis and fix wing pilots at WIC. I've personally met most of you who frequently flies there and I tell ya what... I don't believe a bit that any one of the heli pilots got that careless. Anyways.. it sucks! What we need is to remove all the pavement except for a square slab, and that will force them to go elsewhere.. LoL. In all seriousness, I actually saw it coming. It was just a matter of time that every fixed wing pilot will discover the perfect landing strip with no AMA required. How can it get any better for them. Too bad we can't fly at SkyPark. Well, keep me posted where everyone decides to relocate or when to fuel up for a dogfight. Man.. for a while there, I thought we were getting along. I even took the time to meet them and BS with them in attempt to bring peace amongst us all. I have to admit though, the fixed wing pilots I've met were really nice so this individual you guys are speaking of must of been someone I've never met. With all that aside, I will be in the middle of programming my new 8FG transmitter. With the sick latency speed of this sucker, I'm hearing it takes some time getting used to so with some readjustments, I should be ready to go weather pending and if there is no surprises. Some of the flying areas you guys have brought up sounds a bit far for me though, but I'll just play it by ear.

WIC
I don't think its really to a boiling point. I few smart a$$ comments are to be expected. There was one guy who I had never seen out there before directed a comment toward us when is foamy broke apart midair, there was no collision, no one flying near him, and no one to blame but his self. Many people given an oportunity would rather point a finger and try to blame thier own stupidity on some one else. There is 1 other guy that has made a few comments but I don't pay it much attention. In one ear and out the other. There are alot of great guys out there and besides a couple snooty plankers they are all very cool. Many of the guys on sunday are showing a huge interest in helis after I starting flying with them. So I dont think there is a big deal. I usually do alot of back and forth with my heli, but one day I decided to fly in the pattern with some of the go fast guys and was running circles around them with my 600esp. I dont think they thought it was as funny as I did!

I think the idea here is that we should keep our eyes open for a bigger and better location. Some where we can stage our own fun flys and possibly camping. CH47 an I have spoke often about camping and night flying summertime, a few beverages, some music, good times.

It will buff out!

Marc,

That sounds awesome! Also.. I finally got to see some of your night flying pics. Very impressive man! I have to see that thing live one of these nights. Best clean looking setup I've ever seen. Two thumbs up.

I would just continue to march at WIC. The one planker that spun in had a glue problem. It would have been better for him to have just said " needs more glue". Everyone would have thought the better. There is one guy that doesn't know that flying back to back and not letting others fly their turn is poor courtesy.
