It is a materials issue they used the cheap china regrind plastic from another manufacuer this is the reason for the failure. So they should provide you with another pinion and main gear free of charge as soon as you see the dust stop flying or you will have a catistrophic failure.

Trust me if you get a new pinion and main gear the problem will go away. Or maybe it wont thats the thing about it there is no way to tell. I would contact Amerang they are the distributor in the UK if not email Thunder Tiger directly.

A new main gear seemed to do the trick for me prior to destroying the Raptor

A friend who had the same issue, was in contact with TT and they stated that there was an issue with the mold (if memory serves) and so conceivably there is a whole bunch of main gears out there exhibiting the issue.

I'm saying they don't know what is what they switch the people they buy from so much they don't know. It all boils down to saving a couple pennies and using regrind aka used plastic. So it's a crap shoot the best thing to do is contact the distributor let know your having the issue then see whats up. I used to be the guy in the US that documented these issues. So beware the heli itself is ok but all the trouble if you have the dust my opinion is run run and exchange it for something else.

I had the same issue with my 50SE...Main gear was being eaten and the damn boom kept slipping causing the belt to get loose.

But lucky Ace Hobby provided me a new main gear, pinion and frame. Oh wait i worked for Ace lol

I was one of the first people to finally get through to TT service in Taiwan about this issue.

The issue is one of a few sets of main gears that have not been moulded correctly, they are ever-so-slightly smaller than specification and have a very small, just perceptable, bevel as well. Over time this causes the metal pinion to wear down the plastic main gear.

I initially was in contact with Amerang UK, they simply changed the main frame and sent a new main gear. This made things a little better but the main gear still started to wear again, Amerang said this was "normal" and could not help any more.

Eventually, via Dino on RR, I was put in contact with TT service in Taiwan. We eventually agreed the problem was as described above, I then had to wait about 6 weeks until a new batch of gears was ready. They were sent to me direct from Taiwan, upon arrival you could visually see that the new gears were straighter at the edge and slightly larger in diameter. I fitted one, and now at least 50 flights later, have not had any new wear.

I would suggest ordering a new gear from a busy supplier, like Fast Lads for example, so that you are most likely to get one of the newer batch of gears.
