So the pinion that was sent to me is just the R50 V2 (PV0380) and does not accommodate the upper bearing on the pinion. i.e.; no threads on the upper portion. I thought we were getting the upgraded SE pinion.

I also received the main gear that was promised to me a couple of months ago. That gear is slightly larger in diameter that the original SE main gear. Very interesting!!!!

Is the problem with the pinion or main gear?

I sorts gave up ace hobby. I called them to ask to buy there new pinion gear but they did not know what I was talking about. So I just went back to the ole Titan version clutch pinion set up. So the main gear diameter is news to me. Hope TT figures it out, but the damage for me has been done. Piece of the main gear got sucked into the engine and ran lean. Cost me a new piston.

I am sorry to hear about the engine and I agree with you about ACE. Not a lot of help from them. They haven't treated me badly but there seems to be a lack of availability to us, the consumer.

I was quite disappointed to receive the old style R50 V2 pinion. I guess the good part is they did send both pinion and main gear as promised and I am back flying again.

BTW: there is next to no backlash with this new combination.

FWIW I upgraded to the TitanSE bell, pinion, and pinion block on my regular Titan. Still using the original main gear. No probs what so ever.

That is precisely my question! Which part was changed? Did you install the same 50v2 parts I just did or the SE pinion and new main gear? The SE pinion is threaded on both ends to accomodate the third bearing.

What has TT done to correct this and why am I now using the 50v2 pinion instead of the one for the SE?

I have received information from Ace Hobby stating that this new pinion is not an upgraded part or a permanent fix, it is just to help us continue to fly.

My apologies to Ace for my misunderstanding.

I installed the SE threaded pinion, pinion block, and bell. This was an upgrade since burning out the inner race of the original Titan pinion bearing and pinion. Still running same old Titan main gear/oneway set up.

As previously stated in the post by our marketing manager Jeff Fassbinder. All PV0367 pinions are not bad we are seeing an irregularity in some of the pinions. The replacement parts that are being given out are not a new or upgraded part. We just want our customers to be able to get back in the air and fly their Raptors with confidence. I have been checking the posts and joined RR to help any individual with getting a replacement pinion and main gear. We here at Ace are here to help you the customer and make sure you are satisfied. We would like to thank you all for the input good or bad it helps. Please email service@acehobby.com if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Would someone with an 'official' handle on this please publish the right or wrong sizes of these items - PV0367.

It has been stated officially that they are not all bad, so how does an ordinary person know which one is good and which one is bad.....hopefully without the grief of having to fit it and finding the pinion chews up the maingear.

Peefor I'm sorry, there is no sure proof system to determine what pinion gears are bad or good. That is why we are offering the Titan50 parts as a temporary fix, not a permanent solution to the issue. As I'm sure you have read some guys are flying with no problems and some guys have had the pinion and main gear go bad. I know you’re all looking for some definite answers and we would like to provide them to you when we know for sure what the issue is. If you have any questions please feel free to call me here at the office Monday through Friday 7:30am until 4:30pm.

Thank you,

Mark me down for another person with a destroyed main gear. Pinion chewed the crap out of the main gear and sucked all that plastic dust into the motor. Now I've got scoring on the piston and liner. This all happened on the 6th flight of this heli!!!! Didn't notice it then and when I went to spool it up on the 7th flight the clutch liner broke and flew out. WTF?!! At least the good part about the liner breaking is that when I popped the canopy off to inspect it that's when I found all the main gear plastic dust. Talked with ACE today and I'll be sending pictures in tomorrow off all the damage with a copy of my receipt (a whopping week and a half old) and see what they'll do about it. Gotta say... this is my first Raptor (most definitely not my first nitro) and will more than likely be the last depending on how they deal with it. Great way to start a flying season...

easy way to tell if your need a pinion if you are building the heli new once the frames are together install the main shaft and the main gear unit and see what your back lash is if there is allot more than a hair of movement between the two gears then i would suggest you get it. if you feel that its ok then you should keep an eye on it for at least 10 flights checking for white dust or if you hear a really gearing nose coming from the heli after a few flight you need a pinion

After inspecting the differences between the heli I put together last year and now this one that is having a gear problem, everything appears to be the same as far as backlash and pinion tooth depth. The only difference that I can come up with is last years heli I am only pulling 12 degrees +- and on the new I was pulling 15 degrees +-. Wether this is the issue or not I have cleaned up dust and gear and will recheck after dialing down the pitch to match heli 1. Will fly and recheck, maybe it is a softness of the main gear not beoing able to hold up to pulling 15 degrees of pitch. I don't know but to without seeing any differences between the two pinions and main gears its worth a shot.
I have emailed Ace Hobby and they have responded saying they will be shipping me a new pinion and main gear. Sent them these pictures today.
