I have had a time trying to build this 500. The ESC that was supplied in the kit was putting out 24 volts to the RX and burning up Rx's, I ordered another ESC so I could complete the build.I set up the ESC for 6 volts with a step down on the tail and was using one 2200 3s Zippy for setup and everything was working great. I took it and tried to spool up and the only other thing I did was hook up 2 2200 zippy's with a serial connector and soon as I hooked it up it smoked the ESC. Am I doing something wrong or do you think it's another bad ESC or maybe a bad serial connector?
P. S. In between this time I have built a Heli-Max 400 and had no issue with it.
Thanks, Ben

Can you re-explain what you hooked up to your heli? You used a 3S during setup, and you hooked up 2 2200s to run it? What cell size? In series of parallel?

There should be zero issues with running 6S with the stock ESC and it shouldn't affect your RX either. Very odd it smoked the ESC right away. Was it in the air of as soon as you plugged in the pack?

*You may want to check and see if any of your motor wires touched.

When you hook up the 6S version of stuff, do you have the polarity backwards? That will let the smoke out pronto.

Smoking one is not common. Smoking two in a row is just plain weird.

Time to post pictures of the ESC, batteries, and your series connector.

In your photo basicly your stacking two 25v batteries for 50 volts just like two d size 1.5 volt batteries for three volts. If all the positives where hooked together and the negitives it should be 25 volts with a higher c rating or amp output.Im not 100% positive but I think that whats going on? Do you have a meter you can check the voltage at the end of the Y conntector ?

Not the case at all. He's got a series plug with (2) 3S lipos creating a 6S, 22.2 volts.

Here's what my series plug looks like, (2) 4S 5000 packs running as an 8S 5000.

Series connector looks fine, wired correctly, and even the polarity looks to be right. Maybe you're just one unlucky fellow when it comes to electronics.

I kinda feel like shlagrock on the Flintstones.Remember him? I don;t know if Align will cover two ESC's on warranty or not.I am waiting for the first one to be replaced and find someone that can physically help me wire it up that is well experienced at electronics. If that doesn't work I guess I will fly my Heli-Max 400.Thanks for all the help guy's posting photos and taking that much time to try to help.

The stock ESC works fine with the 500 as long as you don't use the governor mode.

But your problem is more basic than which ESC to use, it's how to keep from blowing up the one you have.

Wiring also is not magic. Red wire on ESC goes to battery +, black wire to battery -. The three motor wires just go to the three wires on the motor. If the motor spins backward, swap any two of the three motor wires and you're good to go.

The rest is plugging servos into the RX, along with the gyro. No rocket science here.

If you follow the three links in this post:

https://rc.runryder.com/p4451186/

you'll be able to get your heli up and running fairly easily.

dkshema, After reading you'r last post you are right.I have everything set up all the radio adjustments, cyclic, programed the ESC in none governor mode and once you do that it does seem simple enough to set up.Why would it work on 3s and not 6s? I guess two ESC's in a row makes it fell like you need some kind of magic.Hope the next one works.
Thanks
