I have a XPS equipted JR 9303 and 5 receivers. One 6 channel on a foamy, one 10 channel on my 8 foot Telemaster Senior, one 10 channel on a 90 sized electric Raptor heli, one 8 channel on my Trex 450 Pro and last but not least a 8 channel on my Raptor e550 helicopter. On the e550 I had what I thought was a lockout way back and had a crash. Lost all control! After reading about "brownouts" I played with the heli sticks and made the receiver light turn to yellow (I think, I kinda forget what color it was!) and that made the servo's stop for about a second so I just figured my UBEC was not keeping up to the task at hand. I then added a second Castle Creations BEC at 6 volts and 10 amps. Got some 30 flights and then it happened again. I lost all control like the last time. Like the radio was turned off. When I got to the heli the battery had come loose and killed the power. I assumed that for some reason the two BEC just wouldn't work together. I finally said no BEC and went to a 2s1p a123 pack. Today was the maiden flight but also with a Rondo flybarless unit. I did this on my driveway to get the basic settings right and was going to wring it out tomorrow at the field. After about 2 mins of hovering a very wierd feeling heli (this is my first try at flybarless with no supervision! No guru's around here!) all of a sudden it started to drift to the right toward my fence. Again I had no control....nothing. I started moving all the levers and sticks but nothing helped. I even fliped the power off and on and nothing! All of a sudden it went full negitive collective and slamed onto the concrete but stayed on the skids. I still had no control. As I walked up on it spin 550mm blades at 2100 rpm (yea it was way freaky!!!) I could see the green light was still bright on the receiver and the blue like was solid on the Rondo but I had no control still. I stood there wondering what I could do and finally decided to grab a broom stick and try to unplug the main battery. As I walked up to it would jump a bit or the tail would spin a bit. This thing sounded like a pissed off hornet and every time I got close it did something to scare me off. After about 8 to 10 mins the battery started to give out and I was able to disconnect the main battery. I took the heli to my bench with the receiver pack still plugged in and the TX still would not operate anything. I noticed that the tail gyro was still controling the tail servo and it was working, the aileron and elevator gyro/servo's were working also. How can this be? I have no control but the receiver light is still on, the 3 axis Rondo gyro is still controlling the 4 servo's and I can't do anything from the TX???

So here are the facts,

This happened 2 times with the original receiver so for this flight I pulled the receiver out of the telemaster so that rules the receiver out...I think. The a123 pack was fully charged before this flight and after checking with my Watt meter I was still at 6.9 volts, almost nothing was used for this "flight"! The 9303 has a Zippy 2500 mah lipo battery that was charged at the same time as the receiver pack....it is at 12.5 volts. The model is a Raptor e550 6s electric helicopter. I bought it this last Feb to be my 3D machine. All of the components were bought new for it in March. It has 3 DS20xSMD servo's on cyclic and 1 DS20GMD on the tail. The power comes from a stock TT OBL43/11-30H and ACE BLC-75 ESC. At this point I seem to think the only thing that could be the culprit is either one of the 4 servo's or the ESC since these are the only things that have been there all 3 times. I have flown the trex 450 Pro, the 90 Raptor and the foamy since the other lockout/problems and they work fine. I don't believe it's and XPS issue other than the fact the light stays green and I have no control over the model.

How do I check these? Here are the strange things. The Rondo gyro was controlling the servo's when I moved it around. Could the servo's cause a problem and then work normally? The ESC has the ferrit ring on the line to the receiver but is this a fix all? Can interference cause a XPS problem and keep it locked out while the light stays green? The only thing I forgot to check that I wish I had was the back of my 9303 to see if that light was green. What do I do now? What ever is causing this has cost me a couple hundred in parts and I really don't know what to do. I don't want to just toss the servos and ESC I'd like a way to CSI this. I've since pulled on the servo's while moving them and nothing strange seems to happen. I'm clueless as to how I can check the esc.

Help!

Tom

I bet a dollar it is the module in the rear of the tx. I had the same thing happen to me (thought it was a brownout when a foamy I had went in) so I left the tx on and went to investigate. As I was walking up I happened to glance at the back of my tx where the module was and it was flickering instead of holding a solid light (BTW this was a 9c with the Spektrum upgraded module). When I got to the module I tapped the rear of the tx and it all came to life again! I sent the module back and got a new one but eventually I got a DX-7. Now I have a 9303 2.4 and all is good.........Ron

Would it be odd though that it has only happened with this ONE heli of mine? I have had some 50 to 100 flights on three other of my aircraft during this time. My 450 Pro, a foamy and my eRaptor 710 12s monster.......all problem free.

I'm leaning toward a noisy esc or servo's and possibley the TX/RX not hopping together.

Hmmm....

Sorry missed that part I think you are right though, I would still suspect the rx because you said when you went to the heli, the light was on but no response. Sounds like the power is ok but the rx might be on it's way out........Ron

Do you have a switch between the RX & LIPO?

If not, I would be guessing too, but I think more likely a noisy ESC than a noisy servo

EDIT: I think it would be worth you posting a link to this in the radio section as I do not beleive it is an FBL problem as it happened before.

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)
