Both good radios.

You'll hear some argue that the Futaba spread spectrum technology is better. The JR stuff probably has a better and cheaper receiver selection.

You will be happy with either one.

how many channels do you really need for a helicopter? i know the minimum is 6 thats what i have now and its the older jr xp6102. I want to get the 2.4 so i can use it in my boat as well since there is no laws against 2.4 on surface

DX7 radio is great, and since it is only 7 channels many have moved to x9303 or other 9 channel radios. So, you can often find a used DX7 very reasonable on Ebay or here on RR. I bought one for $140 and it works great.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I'm a Futaba guy, 7C is a great radio and I like Futaba programming, only thing I don't like about the 7C is no graphs. For this reason I would tell you to get the new Futaba 8 channel.

Thanks steffgiguere,
I was not aware of that, but are the graphs really needed for programming or is it more of just a look and see where they ar set kind of thing? The 8fg looks really nice though!

i've not seen the 8
but i've just got a 10cg and its a great radio
the 7c's ok, i prefer the dx7 to it as even though i've only ever had futaba radio 6ex,9c,10cg
i don't like the programing on the 7c, i don't find it that easy to work with
and yes i can program a jr pcm9 and dx7 even though i'm used to the futaba programing

The Airtronics RDS8000 is also an excellent 2.4 gHz radio -- with 8 channels, which means you'd have enough for onboard mixture control at some point.

It's also considerably lower in price than most 7-channel radios, yet faster stick-to-servo than nearly all of 'em.

You beat me to it GimbalFan. I have never understood why ATX has never been more popular than they are. They are a great radio for the buck.

Futaba or Spectrum?
Hmmm...
Did everyone miss this one or did I?
If you are a beginner and then you are going to need help look into the radio that your help will know. I have been flying JR for over 25 years and know them well so I would suggest a JR to a student flier, however if one of my club mates is going to teach them and he uses Futaba I would recommend a Futaba. So if you are just starting out find out what your mentor flies.

The 7C (2.4)is a great radio and so is the DX7. In an unbiased perspective, You'll have to ask yourself what feature is most important to you. DX7 has model match, and graph. Other than the FASST technology, nothing really shines on the 7C with the exception of the assignable switch feature. I have to admit, having the ability of customizing which switch operates what function.. is really nice. In addition, I beg to differ that its difficult to program because I think its just the opposite. Its walk in the park to program IMO and has a dedicated Throttle cut switch. I don't personally own a DX7 but I did have the opportunity to hold one and it doesnt appear to be more superior to the 7C in regards to the outer casing. It does appear to have more of a sturdy fealing to it IMO but not enough to make a huge difference. On the other hand, if I remember correctly, I believe the switch placement on the 7C are farther apart to accomodate larger hands. It seems more cramped on the DX7. But again.. that could be just me. Best advise I can give you is to go to your local hobby store and feel for yourself. Performance wise, both these radios are excellent and everyone and their mother owns one or the other so help wont be hard to find.

Hope that helped.

The Futaba 7C is a great radio and mine has served me well for the last year..Easy to setup, and I have never had a bind issue or any of the brown-outs that seem to happen with the spectrum radios.
When I bought mine, I did not have to open the manual to program it since the menu is pretty user friendly.
I got mine on Ebay now since I just bought a 10C

Check it out if interested. Alot cheaper then new..

I know, shameless plug!!!
