If you have the standard tank with the gas conversion bung you should not have a problem.
I think the gas one is brown.

Hi Robert

if you are using gasoline from a station ( pump gas ) i am wondering if it might have a lot of ethanol in it , just a guess

an alcohol stopper can't withstand gasoline , and a gas stopper can't handle much alcohol

i would try draining the tank after each flying session , see if that makes a difference

.

Hi Robert
nice MA , thanks for posting photo

i have been running camp fuel for a number of years in a few different gassers without a problem , i wonder if you just got a bad one , or old stock , it sounds like you are doing everything right

i was just thinking , what oil are you using?

stopper
I wouldn't put it in untill your sure it's for gas. Put it in a glass jar of gas over night first to see if it swells up. You must have got a missmarked package.

Nice looking Spectra. Yes, put the stopper in a glass of gasoline for a few days and see what happens.

I have NEVER had a problem with the brown Dubro gas bung on any of my tanks with camp fuel. I don't run anything else. Are you sure you got the Dubro brand replacement bung? What brand camp fuel are you running? What brand of oil? Something just isn't right here. . .

Thanks for the advice guys
I will try another LHS to get the gas stopper, it could be I just got a faulty one (I have not met anyone in my area that fly Gasser and it could have been on the shelf for a long time), I will try the glass trick to make sure.

I'm using Pennzoil 40:1, I was using the Coleman, but I switch to gas to see the difference, I don't mind the gas and the smile is not bad if you handle it well.

I have had my fair share of issues with my Spectra G, I remember when I was in the market for a Gasser, I went back on the pages in this forum for information, and I still went against the grain, I built my Spectra with the engine facing forward, got a pipe that will not stay on, got a tuned 231 and did not use the number one tuner, what a mess.

You live and learn, if I had to do it again I will save up and put a Wren 44 in the Spectra G and call it a day, bypass all this learning curve. Off to flyin and breaking some more stuff.

Thanks

Robert

Turbines are cool
But in my opinion they are a novelty item not an every day workhorse.
If you want to fly and you want to fly alot, then stick to a simple 2 cycle gas motor, you can't go wrong there.

Having a turbine you'll beed gallons of fuel for a day's worth of flying, propane, will need maintenance every 25 hrs or 100 flights, and you get some little extra frustrations with the turbine sometimes as well. I could elaborate, but I think its best that I just leave it at that.

They certainly are smoother than a piston engine and with that I believe they are best suited for aerial photography.

If you have the ability to be successful with a turbine I find it hard to believe you would have any trouble with a two cycle gas. A turbine is a step up in sophistication. You practically have to have a license to operate one.

"smallplanes" is my inspiration
Just like all that I have learn in this hobby, I'm going to stick with it, all aside I just love it, I took it to the field the other day and a friend that has Aurora, commented the frames is like the Aurora, I had to correct him it's the other way round and this has been around for a long time.

For a 5 year old kit, it sure has some innovative ideas built into it.

Thanks guys for your help and input in this forum.

I'd love a Spectra G turbine, but no way can I justify that sort of expense!

Turbine

..depends why you want to go turbine..

..smooth for AP, sound/appearance for scale, wanna play with a turbine or 3D power..

Most of the youtube vids show folk flying gently with their turbines..presumably cost because when they go down (it seems to me) they end up as molten slag..

Once paying out for the turbine then the rest becomes 'relatively' cheap. 7HP so why mess about...800mm bades with a solid 12+ degrees collective, buy two and at least chuck one of them around...

I have had this tank and fuel lines on for at lest 2 yrs with no problem. I use Ozark camp fuel and Amzoil.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
