just got back from painting some of the parts, now comes the hard part with painting with latex, waiting for the paint to dry. it takes about 4-5 weeks before the paint gets fully cured but i put only a very thing layer on so it might be less, we will see. coming together nicely though.

Got the bottom half of the apache painted today. I really hustled since the latex has to dry for 4 to five weeks before it can be coated with a clear coat. Since I am going back home to Belgium for two weeks next Saturday and won’t be able to do any work this was the best time to sit and dry.

The only part left is the tail cone, I was going to build a lost mold but since I would like some practice laying up molds for my EC-130 I think I will build a re-usable mould for practice.

Looks pretty cool in green though!

got some more stuff done tonight, finished the strobes for the nacelles.
i just heated up some thin plastic sheet pinned to the balsa sheet with the hole, then i pushed the plug i made into it
and the sheet takes the form of the plug.
i also put a coat of gloss on the plug for the tail cone, will sand it down and put one more coat on it.
i am hoping to start the mold process this weekend.

finally got some more progress done on the apache.
i tried my hand at making a fiberglass mold...i did ok but i made some newb mistakes that caused my to have to remold one half of the tail...but i am learning.
i feel better about the whole process now that i know it does come off the plug when you follow the instructions.
decals should be on there way shortly, decided to use callie graphics instead of making my own, i just hope the vinyl takes the weathering ok though.

well i got my first part out of the mold yesterday...certainly not the best looking part ever shown on this site, but its a first try and it will serve the purpose it was intended for. i learned a lot but i think i will take on another small molding project to get better at it before i mold the EC-130, i was thinking probably a small EDF or something like a park flyer. hoping to get the part cleaned up and painted to match the fuse over the weekend.

got the tail finished and painted to match today. also did some finish paintings and over the weekend i hope to get a head start on weathering!
i was afraid earlier that the fuse would be to heavy for my OS50, but i seems i was wrong, after everything is on the fuse, i am sure its light enough for nitro and a 4 blade head. i want to say that the fuse is lighter than my AS-555 was.

got the decals put on today. i used callie graphics for the first time on this one, and they turned out great, you really cant print them yourself for what she charges.
btw, if you are building this kit, you are welcome to the decals if you want them, its not a full set but it will get you started as it covers all of the majors ones.
here are some pics of the progress:

thanks for the comments guys,
copter doctor, im sure your new longbow will look just as nice as the one sitting next to it. they would look cool sitting next to each other on the tarmac.

Dr. tim, i took what you told me and did some more research on weathering and i really like how it turned out. i looks like a bit too much when inside the house, but take it outside and the sun takes care of the rest.

Did my first run up on the mechanics in the fuse yesterday, everything is looking good. the tail looks strong and the mechanics don't move.
also got a new gun designed for it, will be ordering the parts from the printer tonight when i get home.

It's a nit, but this is such a great Apache model, I was wondering why the cascade T/R is set up to spin CCW when it is CW on the full size bird? This is something that can be easily changed, even at this stae of constuction. Please take this as a constructive input as I certainly respect the job you have done with your Apache.
