He explained that the Osprey has been deployed for almost seven years in a variety of combat, humanitarian and special operations throughout the world.

“From East Asia to Europe, V-22 squadrons are currently deployed in support of our Marine Corps and Air Force Warfighters,” O’Donnell said. “Just last year, the Marine Corps stood up a squadron in Okinawa. This spring we saw delivery of MV-22s to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) in Quantico where they will fulfill roles in executive support mission to the president of the United States and this summer we expect our first forward deployed basing of an Air Force Special Operations Squadron (SOS), the 7th SOS, to Mildenhall, England.”

The Osprey has officially come around full swing.
The Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor manufactured by Boeing and Textron is emblematic of the flexibility that the service is seeking for the future. The revolutionary aircraft combines the speed and range of a fixed-wing plane with the vertical agility of a helicopter, enabling it to land almost anywhere.
Most of the world’s population lives near the sea, but with aircraft like the MV-22 Osprey rotorcraft, Marines can get far inland fast if necessary, and then land pretty much anywhere they want.

ALLLL ABOARD!!

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, YAMAGUCHI, Japan - Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (HMM-262) off-load 12 MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft at the port facility at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, July 30. The aircraft arrived by commercial cargo ship, before being flown to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa, Japan, as part of HMM-262. The 12 aircraft will be inspected, and prepared for flight operations to Okinawa at the beginning of August completing the one-to-one CH-46E replacement on Okinawa. The MV-22 is a highly-capable aircraft with an excellent operational safety record. The aircraft combines the vertical capability of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft that can fly twice as fast, carry three times as much, and fly four times the range of the older, CH-46E. Its capabilities will significantly benefit the U.S. - Japan alliance, strengthen our ability to provide for the defense of Japan and an increased ability to perform humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. Pentagon watchdog to release classified audit on V-22 Osprey
The Pentagon’s internal watchdog is poised to publish a classified report scrutinizing how much time the military’s V-22 Osprey spends in maintenance and unprepared for flight.

The Defense Department inspector general’s audit will determine whether the Osprey’s performance “meets mission capability rate requirements, as well as how the frequency of repairs and the replacement of supply parts” affects its mission readiness, officials with the IG’s office wrote in their August newsletter.

It is not clear who requested the audit, but its results will be classified, according to Bridget Ann Serchak, the IG’s chief of public affairs. She declined to provide further details.

However, the process did encompass several years’ worth of data. A memorandum from the IG, dated January 2012, indicates the audit was to include V-22 operations from Oct. 1 2008 through Sept. 30, 2011.

The V-22 Osprey May Have Climbed out of Controversy
"The Osprey, its pilots and crews have made their case and done it very well," Ulsh says. "The aircraft and the capability it offers are staples in our fleet and will remain so well into the future. The introduction of the MV-22B Osprey to HMX-1 to fly presidential support missions is significant as it highlights the maturation of the aircraft and further lends credence to its proven and sound technology."

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. - MV-22B Ospreys from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 266 (Reinforced) fly in formation above Marine Corps Air Station New River during their homecoming ceremony, Nov. 4. Marines from VMM-266 (Rein.) were greeted by a crowd of friends and family who the Marines haven't seen since they departed for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit 26, 8 months ago.
