want to run 350mm main blades. do I have to stretch ?
Hi I am going to go to 4s, I am hopeing it will make the 450se V2 fly like a bigger bird or like a Rave by spinning a larger disc area. My question is do I have to stretch the boom to run 350's ? if so would it just be better to run wider chord blades (if they make them)? would wide chord blades just increase responsiveness and not stability ? what do you think ? I would appreciate all info good or bad.
If I can't help you, its probably because you are helping me.

you have to stretch for a proper 350 upgrade.

if you want the big bird feel add the V3 upgrade, this brings a huge amount of stability to the heli. using say 335's and flybar weights and its just to docile really.

i run 325's V3 head no weights and the heli is very very stable

well i do want it to be stable. I would like it to perform a little better in the wind and be more responsive with lowere hs. why is the v3 upgrade more stable ? are the grips longer ? if so I assume this would do essentially the same same thing as a longer blade, right ? will the 4s with the v3 head upgrade give me longer flight time ?If I can't help you, its probably because you are helping me.

I did the G5 boom, belt, and wooden blades. I have not flown it yet, but it worked with no issues. You can definitely tell the increase in rotor diameter with just a glance. I am on 4s2100 Align with Neu motor /Jazz 40-8-16 and GY520. It is an SEv2 after upgrades.

the V3 upgrade more stable due to the wider head and larger feathering shaft.

i run 4s 1800m 30c 11t governed at %80 and my flight times and esc temps are the same.

look try the V3 head for $26, its the cheapest route and a must do mod really. if you need more then go ahead and stretch away.

You will need the V3 head block and the V3 spindle. The V2 spindle will not work because it's too short.

Doing the V3 upgrade will make your heli a little more stable since it extends your blades out another 10mm or so. But it's not going to be the same as if you run 350mm blades. Running real 350 blades will give you more lift allowing you to run a lower headspeed.

A friend of mine has the pro. Now that I look at it closer, I see how the hub is different.

I have a Pro. Comparing the v3(sport) vs. Pro the: hub, main grips, and flybar cage is different. They both might have the same dimensions but the sport seems to be beefier than the Pro. Has more alloy on some spots. Loving my pro though. The new head really makes a difference on the 450. The heli is really stable yet fast when you need it. It does get a little touchy in the wind and sometimes I wish I can run 350 blades without any mods to the boom and TT.

all great replys. thanks guys I really need to figure out how to get the bird to fly with the tail holding strong. it seems to me the with the 3s setup it will bog too much from the added collective and the pitch of the tail rotor and to stop this I want to go 4s. Would this be a better choice ? Say 4s with sport head ?If I can't help you, its probably because you are helping me.

thats what i am flying now. its stable and powerful.

the best mod you can do that really isnt a mod is throw soem pro tail blades on. it makes a huge difference in how well the tail holds.

with all that said if your tail wont hold with 3s or its bogging you have other issues that 4s and a new head wont solve.

i have a 3s V2 and a 4s V1 with the V3 head and both fly very simular and flight times are the same. the only difference is the V2 is much quicker on cyclic and the V3 flys mmore like a big heli with the added stability.

the V3 upgrade is not a small gain in stability it takes a huge amount of the squirrley right out of the 450

Its not that the tail wont hold per say. It is more like it is under powered it moves fast on cyclic but on punch out it seems very slugish. I figured I would go to 4s to fix this and maybe get a little more flight time as compared to a 3s of the same capacity. While I was at it I figured I would go a little bigger so it would handle better. I like your last post I didn't get the sense of a big difference from your first post. I am going to try your Idea, what the heck if it works for me then that is great if not then maybe some one will need a new v3 head for cheap. Will my current blade grips work with the v3 head ?If I can't help you, its probably because you are helping me.

I just remaidened my hacked up SEv1:

* v3/sport hub and grips
* 4s 2200 mAh hyperion 25C packs
* 450m with 12T
* rotortech 350s
* g5 boom and belt
* phoenix ice lite 50, set rpm at 3200

4:30 minute flights take out about 1400 mAh. The rotortechs are really quiet. It was plenty quick on the cyclic, autorotation performance was excellent, and the tail held great with my 401 and gorilla tail blades.

try a set of thunder power blades they are longer than the align 325's by a good 10mm.

they make my 450 pro super stable compared to the 450 night blades i have.

honestly it feels kind of floaty. i also fly with a 2600mah pack so its a little heavier than it needs to be but i can live with that for now.
Who cares... its just money...
