Did you crash today? Yes I did. My first dumb-thumb crash in a VERY long time (except for the Throttle Hold Incident a month ago).I was getting cocky, feeling pretty confident about flips and inverted hovering.Poor collective management did me in. I was starting to get a brain fade while hovering inverted, and tried to flip out of it. I didn't apply enough positive collective to pull out and crash-landed HARD.Just starting the tear-down now and I can already see a split canopy, stripped elevator servo, bent spindle, stripped main gear, and knocked-to-the-side lower frame. I'm betting the main shaft is bent too.I hope the head survived. It looks OK, but we'll see later.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV_WYeHlHYgSome of you may think I overdo the videos a bit, but in this case it allowed me to analyze what happened.Whether you post them or not (please do!) they can be a very valuable tool for analyzing problems and crash causes.<EDIT> Wow - YouTube sure picked a nice thumbnail for a video for a change. Pretty. </EDIT> |

What was the crash cost? Tail boom: $4 Main gear: $5 Servo: $4 (HXT) Canopy: $10 Blades: $13 (I'm hooked on Align woodies)Maybe $40 if I went with all-new Align stuff, including the extras that come in the packs. Probably $20 or so for clone parts.I need some more sim time. I just about have the stick movements for inverted hovering ingrained, but I need to figure out which parameters in the sim will cause the motor to bog a little more. |

I don't do any 3d I like doing those tail-walk tricks, which doesn't work too well without idle-up, fell right onto asphalt and end up rebuilding the whole heli again for the rest of the day. ![]() |

2nd time this season I forgot to hit the idle up. Gear, mainshaft, spindle, flybar possibly the rotor hub is all bent up cause the top bolt snapped off. All 3 of the stock Blueray nylon gear'd servos (I already planned upgrading to 65MGs) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've just gotten into the habit of flipping to Idle Up as soon as the heli ascends from the ground. ![]() ![]() |
