Need help
Looking to get back into helis. I had been flying a R50 about 5 years ago. Looking to get some help on what to go back to. I am staring new, so let me know what's new and worth looking into.

You wanting to go electric, nitro, gas, turbine? There are soooo many new and cool things out now. I was out for a year and a half and couldn't believe the changes in that amount of time.

Some things I noticed:

+++LIPOs are better and cheaper. Which means big electrics are more affordable.

+++Now you can get a digital flybar system (FBL) that does away with the flybar and stabilizes the heli on 3 axes. This also replaces the gyro.

+++Radios have all gone digital. Futaba, JR, Spektrum, all digital.

+++Some program called helicommand will "save" your helicopter when you get in trouble. Don't know a lot about this but did watch a cool vid.

+++There are some cool battery chargers out now for cheap.

+++Align has a lineup of Nitro helis.

+++Very tiny electric helis are out now that run off 1 cell LIPO and actually fly decent.

+++Gyros have gotten tiny.

+++Lots and lots of people are flying elec helis running 6S,8S,10S, and 12S battery packs.

+++Dataloggers are the bomb. (i.e., Eagletree and others).

These are the big things that I noticed. You will undoubtedly be even more surprised being out for five years. I wouldn't even know where to begin in recommending a heli. Really depends on a ton of factors. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Perhaps if you give some more details about what you are looking to do that would help. Many will chime in I'm sure.
even not doing anything would have been better than nothing...
