I'll take some of the Shmuckism if I could fly a plane like that and not make it one with the runway.

Cub2000 - I do also have a passion in photography. Mark, was that one of the multi-frame shots and what length is that telelens? Was it on tripod? I have a Nikon D80 with the Nikon 70-200 that I plan to use in the upcoming local funfly. Would be great if you can share some tips
Hi Cub,

I was using a Canon 1D-mkIII and a 300mm f2.8 lens for the shot. It was in burst mode as you suspected (10fps). Your D80 w/70 - 200 should get some good shots at your event. I use center point focus in ai-servo mode. For the planes it is nice to see some prop blur which means you need to shoot at 1/640th shutter speed or lower. Try shooting in shutter speed priority mode at around 1/400th and see how the shots look. If you get close enough to fill the frame when zoomed to 200mm you should get some nice background blur as well.

Wow John! Nice shot. Nice to see you here. I checked out your smugmug galleries and saw some really good stuff in there.

Chris - thanks for the compliments - I just got my MA mag last night and I couldn't believe how good your plane looked in print. It looks even better than on the computer monitor. You'll have to get a copy for your mother ya know (cover of the rolling stones, LOL).

Mark Fadely couldn't take this photo, he was flying.

I'll admit it's not as technically good (camera settings etc) as the other photos posted here but its still a good catch.
This is a photo of one of Mark Fadely's blade scrapes. No it didn't crash or miss a beat.

Yes, I will be buying a couple of EXTRA copies of he mag once they go onto the back list. I'm certain that I could buy them now, but I don't get the mag. Gotta get the paperwork from dad's mag.

Yes, the mag that dad gets will be signed and framed for them to keep!!!

THIS is by far the finest blade-scrape photo I've seen.

It's got both the rhyme and the reason -- AND the tale o' the tape as well. Nice catch.

That Blade scrape shot of Bill Pirschell's is incredible. I love the bent action of the scraping blade. That's too cool. That shot was also on the cover of the late MHT magazine about three years ago.

Another great shot. Could an award-winning plank photo thread be morphing into a blade-scrape thread? Next thing you know we'll be seeing 40% planks with reversible-pitch prop systems also doing blade-scrapes. op-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-thwop-t
