Os 50 sxh piston failure

For some reason my OS50 sxh broke. I was trying to find a good
guide on how to take the engine apart and searched internet.

I took the engine apart which was suprisingly easy and found that the piston had a tiny piece cracked off and ring was broken. Now it looks that these engines do not break easily and i called the distributor and they said that this is unusual. Did not not run it lean or anything so wonder what happened. Also use air filter so engine looked like new inside and no foreign object could possibly get there. Any one else had similar problems? This has gone thru some 30 gallons so maybe it was due to fatique or old age?

It happens and 30 gals is a lot. I've had one with I don't know how many flights (a lot) do the same thing.

Put a piston and ring in it, scuff the liner, and break it in.Andy

I just bought a vibe with a OS50 hyper in it that has only had about 20 flights. WELL.... first flight for me on it and the ring broke...I landed and checked it a couple time before it broke to make sure it wasnt running lean. So I dont know why it broke. What headspeed were you running?

Not very high, 1750 rpm. Got a new engine and will fix the broken
one when i get a new piston.
