I case you were wondering.......
How long the clutch will last in a Vibe 50....

About 429 flights, Hard 3D flying, no hot starts or other non-flight related abuse.

Clutch started slipping noticeably today, most noticeable during tic tocs. Thought I would share just in case anyone was wondering how long they last.

Happy Vibe-ing all!

When you can do tic-tocs and the head slows but the engine just keeps zinging along unphased.

Basically I was banging from full positive to full negative and the engine didnt bog at all but the head was slowing WAAAAYYYY down.

It sounds kinda "funny" too!

I dont think that clutch liner owed me anything after 429 flights. I am hoping the HD raptor liner will fit in there so I can fly this weekend. It is supposed to be nice.

The only problem I've had with the clutch is the one-way slipping, I'm on the second and it started to slip.

The sad part is that you need a really big press to get that sucker out

Me and the Captain replaced the liner with a Raptor 90 HD liner last night. Got 9 flights on it today and she is gripping good now. Too good in fact, the clutch is engaged when I spin the starter. Hopefully it wears in soon and loosens up. I will keep you all posted.

Right, only certain parts have that many flights on them. Most I have made it without a wreck is 170.

Heli direct shows tommorow for the ETA. Hopefully that means I will have it really soon. We will see how it holds up but it sure has some big shoes to fill.

Curiosity... in 429 flights did you have to do any other maint? Did you do a mod to keep the head block from rocking?

I'm at 90 flights and my tracking is in and out a bit. All I can figure is the head block rocking on the main shaft... everything else is tight.

I havent done anything to the head block or mainshaft. I have noticed some rocking since I have had the Vibe BUT right now I dont have any play. I have crashed it 3 times so it seems that the mainshafts may have had slightly different diameters. The main shafts that had play in the head block also seemed to have a little play in the main bearings. I have never noticed any of this to cause anything objectional about how the heli flys. No tracking issues at all. I have had hyper grips installed since flight 198 though. BIG difference on how the heli flys with them. Now I am at 455 flights.

If I get to 200 flights and am still on love with the heli I'll definitely consider the hyper grips. With the OS-55 the larger disk will be more managable power wise. Hope the plastics last that long!

Oddly enough... I put a new jesus bolt in and cranked it down... the head is now much tighter than before. I couldn't get rid of the rock, now I can. There were metal burs in teh holes in the mainshaft when I removed the head... don't know where they came from but they are gone now.

Gonna fly it tomorrow... hopefully she flies like a dream again!

A little more power would definatly be welcome with the bigger hyper grips. I took out my hyper and put in a YS 50/ BW hatori setup and it has noticeably more power then the hyper/mp5 sb ever did. Metal grips tighten the Vibe up so much you really dont even need to run the same pitch to get the "pop" and "stop" out of it. I still run the same 12 degrees of pitch though. It is easy to 4 point tic toc and things as long as you dont bang the collective it doesnt bog at all.

I am going to fly mine tommorow too!

Whelp... the tracking issue is gone and with the head on there tighter the cyclic went up... SWEET!!!! I guess that thing was rocking up a storm before... now it's a new heli all over again!

I bought a new head block that does fit much tigher on the main shaft, but I'll just hold onto it until I need it.

I can't see myself ever selling this bird... it just can't imagine something that flies better. I'll get another hundred flights on it and see what happens with the OS-55 and before I spring for the grips. Besides... I'm working on a mini V-barred Protos right now... I need an electric that can fly as good as the Vibe and I think that might be the only way to get it.
