Any Web Master - Need Tips on website
I'm helping a friend with a website and need info on how to get the name of the site, phone number, address on google directory / map when doing a search.

What do I need to do to get the site listed.

Any info will help.

Hey,

I'm not a fully fledged web master producing web sites day in day out, but I do make and maintain web sites for companies and my own site, which has had me come across this very same issue myself.

Over time the search engines will automatically find your site and add you to the list, your site will then pop up according to any searches made accodring to what keywords are written into the meta text of your first page. I think one of the main criteria is these meta tags which is the sole part of a web site which the search engines look to match up to a given search word.

To help the process of getting your site known to more than one search engine there was or is from memory programs which allow you to submit your site details to more than one search engine at a time. Unfortunately I cannot point you in the right direction of one to try, but do remember using one myself a few years ago.

The next option is to actually pay a company who specilises in seacrh engine optimisation and rankings to promote your site and keep it at the top of the list on the top search sites. This can be quite expensive, I recently got quoted about £4000 gbp's for a years service on one site who is looking to draw in more business.

Google do offer some form of search engine deal based on a credit system from memory, I got told about this but have not explored it myself.
One system I have had experience with is;

http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/productK...ficDriverDirect

This seemed to work reasonably well and is relatively cheap, the companies site I put one of these deals onto could be found on search engines all ok. It popped up higher up the list with the right keyword search, which is where optimisation comes in handy.

Hope this helps a bit?

I am still looking for a much more definitive solution, without spending the earth and so it will be good to hear what you find yourself.

One of the best ways to get noticed is to have your site name or topic stated in the main page/body many many times. Web crawlers look for this and that will get you up on the pecking order.

I was looking at a Flash type website just because of the classing and dynamic look but now it's back to simple html.

What type doc do you recommend and why. There seems to be so many types but my goal in designing this website is for a restraunt type business. With that in mind, the bots will be able to search for the page vice the flash codes.

So here I am looking into so many free templates but still haven't found what I am looking for. This can be tedious for the inexperience.

With today's small electronic communication devices such as the black berry and the i-Phone, I also need to ensure that the website will render correctly on these device.

Anyway, if you have any suggestions I sure appreciate it.

Thanks again.

So what does one charge to design and get a site going. Once the site is up an running what will it cost to maintain it, make customer changes such as adding new content or pictures. I am looking for avenues to stay afloat as I transition towards my new beginnings.

Any other ideas to make an added income will be greatly appreciated. For now this hobby is on postponement until I come up with a money making idea. Every little bit will help.

Best do it yourself.

If you get a buddy to do it, changes are, down the road, he will hit the road and you are stuck with nothing after all your efforts.

If you hire a professional, you will pay dearly. A very high price for a start up business.

You must have something to sell if you want to make a living. Either a product or service. Services can be tricky on the Internet.
