Nice conversions, very inspiring.

Can anyone share their motor mount/template? I'm planning to convert my fbl Sdx to E power with 12s. If anyone willing to share their motor mount dimensions, I'd like to customize mine out of cf plates my email lbllanora@yahoo.com.

Plan to use the scorpion motor, ice hv80 and 12s 3300s.

Thanks!
Ludwig

Motor Mount
The motor mount is circular and the same size as the inside of the fan shroud..
It is two (OOP's it is 3pieces!! Thanks davidevo50:cool piece with 2 inside the shroud, and one on top with the shroud sandwiched between the two...
Good luck with your conversion...Stan

Thanks Stan. I'll check the frames and measure from the shroud as you mentioned. Regarding proper motor mounting holes, did you make the shroud moveable or the motor mounting holes elongated to be able to adjust the gear mesh properly?SDX FBL | Eagle3 SWM | Trex 600EFL Pro

Quick question on SDX conversion
Just curious, some of you here that have done the conversion have elected to mount the LiPos with one in the back at an angle and one in front either on top of the servo frame or under it.

So you're not taking the option of raising the frame a bit above the skids to put both packs next to each other as in the pics here;
http://www.hirobo-online.de/katalog...-10s/index.html

Is this due to the packs used for 12s not fitting underneath or is it a C of G issue?

At first glance it would seem a nice thing if the packs could somehow slide in from the back without having to remove the canopy.

Anyweeeee, just curious how you wound up with the alternative arrangements you have.

I just maidened my SDX a couple weeks ago running it as a nitro (OS50 Hyper) but quickly realised the spare engine I used needs new bearings, which I can easily change but I am giving serious thought to just going straight for the electric conversion. (I would use a Scorpion 4025 on 12s and prob a Hobbywing HV ESC).

The gap between the motor and lipo plate is about 40mm and if you go 12s and use 2500-3000mah each, check if they fits.

Finally got mine going
I started my SDX conversion last year and finally got a chance to maiden it just last Sunday.

I am amazed at the power, it's an absolute rocket compared to anything I'm used to.

My setup is; (flybarred with stock rotorhead)
Align 600mx 510kv motor
Hobbywing 70HV
12s using pairs of Gens Ace 25c 2600mah packs
87 tooth delrin main gear and 10 tooth pinion

My only concern is that the headspeed is quite high. I think the theoretical max is about 2340 using 90% efficiency at 44.4 volts.

We tached it at 1900 in normal mode and originally I had about 80% flat throttle in idle-up as a starting point (using governor mode in the ESC) which resulted in about 2300 headspeed and I turned it down a bit and it was then tached at 2170.

At 2300 it has a crazy amount of power. At 2170 it's still very punchy and more than capable.

Total weight with LiPos is 4.2kg and at 5.30 on the timer it was drawing about 1650mah, so about 64%.

What I am wondering is; Where is the threshold at which the ESC would be operating at just too low efficiency? Ideally I would aim for 2000 rpm for idle-up but I'm thinking that might be too low for the gearing on 12s with that motor, it's like starting your car in third gear all the time, sort-of.

For those of you running the 9 tooth pinion / 89 tooth main, how is that holding up?

What To Do???
Yesterday was a WINDY and COLD day here in Arkansas.. I have been working pretty much full time on scale birds and thought it best for me to take a little break...
So, what did I feel like doing????
How about convert my E-powered SDX 12s set up to FBL!!!!
So, I did just that... Have not set up the FBL unit yet, but that is the next step... I need to purchase a USB extension cord... BUT here are a few pic's of the completed project... looking forward to some descent weather to get out and give her a run up and test flight!!! Used a couple of new pushrods that I cut and threaded, along with some Rocket ball joints and a swash lock.... thinking it looks pretty good...
