Castle Creation Ice 100 esc vs Hobby wing 100 esc I got 2 500 size heli to setup. I am looking to run a Scorpion Motors in both and need a 100 amp ESC. I will be running a 6S battery system too. I like to just buy a Jive 100 but its out of reach for cost for me. These two CC HV 100 and Hobby wing I can afford. Anyone try both and can comment? If you are running one of these and a Scorpion please omment and help me. Thanks |

Those who use the ICE ESC, do you use the built in BEC to power the ESC as well or you don't trust the BEC in it? |

Why would you not trust the BEC, CC makes an excellent BEC. If 5 amps. is enough for your setup, then you don't need another BEC.Switching BEC
The Phoenix Ice switching BEC output is factory set to 5.0V. Users may use Castle Link to select their desired voltage between 5.0V and 7.0V, in 0.1V increments. How many other BECs are out there that can be dialed in at 0.1V increments?Stan 2- Logo 500 Ion X2 eAvro90

Growmaster4, Thanks for the reply can you share some of your heli info. Like Battery type and mah and esc number and motor make and size and just how the fire started and what you think happen. I can see one fluke fire happening but 2 from the same owner make me a little interested on what happen. Please give detail if you can. Thanks all |

Im using a CC Ice 100 on my 600 ESP but i decided not to work the ESC to much and go ahead and grab the CC BEC PRO....Best decision i made. Its super super light and i dont worry at all about the esc now and this both the ESC and the BEC come down COLD AS ICE :-)Both are great buys and have great price tags. I got replaced my HV85 with the ICE 100 and BEC Pro for nearly the same cost as the HV85 new.my 2 cents...get the BEC Pro if you have the room for it, you'll never worry again its way more power than anything could ever put at it BEC wise-Justin |

Folks,I have seen reports that the ICE 100 ESC is extremely hot (above 140F degree) after a flight, and patterkid says it's cold ice for him, but then he's the only one I see with an external BEC. Is it reasonable to assume at the moment that the built in BEC in the ICE 100 causes the high temperature?growmaster4, what heli and setup are you using the built in BEC in the ICE 100 and does it come down with acceptable temp? |

Let me further explain something about the ICE 100. It does get warm/hot(sorta) if its just a hovering flight but the moment you get good airflow by it say forward flight and some mild 3d it cools right off. Safe to say the big ol heat sink does do some good with airflow. |

I have been running the internal BEC on 2 500's for some time now. The BEC is rated at 5 amps peak but I have had no issues running 3 9650's and 9257 on tail with 520. On 600 size helis I would strongly recommend testing to see what your set up pulls....I have used a watt meter on the ground to see what my 600's pulled and I decided to use the pro bec and I used an extension to disable the internal BEC on the ICE. |

Just to add to what Clintstone said...The CC BEC PRO comes with an extension to disable the ICE BEC so dont worry about buying any additional cables. ICE + BEC PRO = AWESOME SETUP and a COOL (temp wise haha) one. |

The black tape Did you guys take off the black tape running across the back of the ESC? Applying velcro on top of the tape is probably not a good idea. But, the tape is also there to keep the plastic piece at the end of the ESC in place. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to take the tape off. |

I used velcro over the tape....I also use a very thin piece to strap the esc to the frame. 100 plus flights with no problems. |
