When is a swashplate no longer airworthy?
Guess the Subject says it all, but I'll elaborate anyway.

The swashplate on a Raptor 50 that I just got has a LOT of up/down play on the center ball. I'm going to replace it, but am wondering how much is acceptable and how much is too much. This one has about 3/32" of movement.

well, once it gets any vertical play out of the ball, it could technically go at any moment. The more slop you have, the faster it wears and the less force it takes to wear it.AMA 700159

Stick a fork in it -- it's done. In fact that one was done long ago.

ZERO is the acceptable amount of detectable play in a swashplate, or any other bearing in an RC heli.

i put a socket under it and on on top and give it a few love taps and it tightens up the ball. done it to 2 different swashes with 200+ flights and it has been successful %100 get a few more hundred.

If you have up/down play in the swash you'll never be able to get your pitch set right.Andy
