denatured alcohol will not hurt the electronics as far as I'm concerned. We use it at work when spraying off a CCA board after it has been soldered with flux and such. should work fine.Thomas Moore Team Avant Team Edge |

Just use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. It is much cheaper than denatured alcohol (ethanol w/ 10±% additive like methanol to avoid liquor taxes). I get a liter of 70% isopropyl for about $3 at Walmart. |

As a bonus you can keep the H1N1 off your hands with the rubbing alcohol!Life is tough, it's tougher if you're stupid |

Been using denature alcohol as far as I can remember
however like Ghostrider stated early in the post, I use
an air compressor to blow off the residue then I run the
starter follow by a dry micro cloth. Jaycab |

I use Isopropyl, the higher the percentage of Iso the less water that is in it! 90% is currently as high as you can purchase readily. It is available at stores like CVS, Eckerds, Walgreens, Walmart etc,etc etc...Just buy the highest percentage to keep water content down.
I prespray a rag and start wiping, small tight areas are covered with a Q-Tip or a screwdriver placed behind the clean up cloth.David Blain T.O.R.C.H.S. Orlando Member

This was enough for me to stick with rubbing alcohol! *That pesky methane in nitro fuel isn't pretty either. Gotta love electrics. that sounds like warnings on 99% of all products we purchase these days. have you checked the warnings on batteries for the electrics these days? gas in your lawnmower, hairspray, cooking spray, etc. etc. all have similar sounding warnings. couldn't resist i love the smell of nitro in the mornings. oh and i use denatured on everything on the heli but the canopy. i don't spray electronics directly but it's never hurt anything before.fly it like you stole it |

I actually prefer the isopropyl to denatured. The denatured seems to leave a residue if you miss a spot. The best thing I have used is like GimbalFan, about 80% windex to 20% alcohol. I have made this concoction with both denatured and isopropyl. I cant really tell diff. Of coure the iso is cheaper. This mixture gets everything offProcrastinators of the world unite ... tomorrow. From wiki:Despite its poisonous nature, denatured alcohol is sometimes consumed as a surrogate alcohol, which can result in blindness or death if denatured alcohol contains methanol. That's hot!!! ╘ₒ₲ₒ 6°° ƺƉ ṾЪ∂® |

I'll give the denatured a try!! Sounds like it is a great cleaner when used correctly. I might try the 50 - 50 windex / denatured mix to see what happens. |

Windex is not a good choice for cleaning your model. It contains amonia which, if it comes into contact with electronic connectors (switches, servo connectors, etc.) can cause corrosion. Use Glass Plus or other cleaners that do not contain amonia.-- dave -- |

Ok. That's good to know. The issue is not the brand, but the amonia. |

you can purchas 99% alcohol at a few places like meijer. It's not as cheap as the other stuff but it's what I use, less chance of water and such in the electronics.Justin - Team Horizon, Team Byron 2-700x, Trex 700n, small helis |

the amonia free windex is good stuff. i first started buying if for plank covering. you don't want amonia there either. i now prefer it to the original. it works great for cleaning a heli on it's own but the alcohol helps to dry quicker, it seems.fly it like you stole it |

Ammonia I didn't know ammonia could hurt electronics. I usually use rubbing alcohol, but sometimes I use my "airplane mix" which works really well, but I won't use it any more on my heli's after learning this -- although I spray a rag or paper towel and then wipe the heli, not spray the heli. My airplane mix is 5 cups water, 8oz iso alcohol, 1 oz dish detergent (Dawn, etc), and 1/2 cup ammonia. This cleans anything and isn't super hard on your skin like denatured.must have been a downdraft |
