Ivan,
I would not charge you anything to install a new liner for you....

Just send me your clutch bell and clutch and I'll fit a new liner for you with the proper clearance.....

I'll PM you my address if that's the way you want to go.....

The only reason i kept run it was i thought maybe it had to break in different than a glow heli. I don't know how grease or oil got in there because i dd not put it there.

It’s a long time since I had Spectra but if I remember correctly the clutch comes built up in the kit so it would have been applied when assembled if I'm right.

Is it posible your running to low of a head speed and causing the clutch to never lock up and slip constantly. I find it hard to believe a little bit of grease would cause that much slipping. As hot as that has been it would have burned off a long time ago.

Most likely very low head speed along with lots of pitch never allowed the clutch to fully engage. Use of high pitch, low rpm, caused clutch to severely over heat.

Severe heat leeched the grease out of the bearings' which just compounded the problem.

After repair I would seriously look at your pitch and throttle curve or you will most likey do it again.

Clutch looks Like you may get away with it, although it's pretty blue at the hinge line, and may have taken the temper out of it.

Bell definitely needs to be relined as the heat destroyed the adhesive and grease saturated the lineing. Bearing maybe ok but will need to be checked and repacked if it feels ok.

Where is the butter fly opening at around 8 degrees pitch ??

Are you saying Grey’s analysis is wrong? It makes perfect sense to me. The grease came from the bearings, that is for sure. Cooking the shoes and bell will boil the grease out of the bearings. Both the shoes and the bell should not be hot because there should not be any motion between them once the clutch is engaged. Slippage on spool up should be 3-5 seconds, no more. Was there too much clearance between the bell and the shoes? How would we know if you didn’t check.

Being in a hurry to fly is what makes all newbies fail. Never be in a hurry to fly a gasser. There is too much potential to getting hurt.

I think your camera is fine. You have at least one clear photo which says the camera works. I think you lack the patience to lean how to use it correctly and that same impatience is hurting you on this project.
From the very first time i cranked it i would have to go above 1/4 thr just for the blades to start to turn. At the end it would take 3/4 thr just to get them to turn.
This says stop what you are doing NOW. There is something drastically wrong. I don’t think Raja has all the answers but when it comes to a Spectra G he has most of the answers. If he tells you to check something don’t ignore it regardless of how much work is involved.

Did someone tell you to change them? If not then keep the design as MA designed it or you could introduce another problem.

Ace please do me a big favor don't EVER try to help me again. And i don't know how your calling me a newbie i have built lots of helis that fly perfect to this day. How long does it take you to build you gasser two weeks well i've been working on mine for around six months if thats fast then i'm one bad dude. I talked to Bob Bice just a minute ago and he said himself he thinks they bored my liner out to much and it would have nothing to do with oil or grease. Now if you don't beleive that call and talk to Bob.

I think it was a low head speed thing. But this can all be fixed and the heli can be good as new.

If you need another PEM nut or two, you can always buy something like a throttle servo doubler from Ron Lund and press the PEMs out of it.

Every person here has probably had to learn the hard way at some point in time with failures of some sort even if some wont admit it.Gassers can be a pain in the butt in the early days especially if you dont have a mentor living close by,you will get there and i can understand your frustration, done some pretty dumb things in the early days myself, hang in there ,you will laugh this off in a few months time, and kick the dog next time

I don’t care how many heli’s you have put together. If you can’t recognize a problem when it occurs you are a newbie, if you don’t check what experienced people tell you to check when there is a problem you are a newbie. My posts may not help you but other newbies can learn from your mistakes by reading these discussions. If I can’t help you I am sorry.

Smallplanes, I have a Bergen gasser and have had to clean the grease or oil out of the clutch liner twice myself. I was at the shop when Chris blew the grease out of the bearings when everything was new. So I know that mine was without grease from the begining. I can't tell you how it gets there but it does. Good luck with your gasser, mine still has a few bugs to work out. But in the end I think the gasser will be a great everyday flyer and by far the cheapest to run.
